Rift S DisplayPort issue

While all this is going on, because I sold the Rift to a friend, my facebook is full of posts about how much fun he's having. :rolleyes:

It's exactly the same with motherboard USBs. No extension cables, and Windows is bang up to date.

I had a look and couldn't see any way to rollback the firmware.

I did wonder whether to try the public test channel. I suppose I might as well!

I don't think I can do that. I can't remove the firmware version that is already on it, can I?

I have just joined the Beta programme. After a few Oculus updates it is now saying that the headset firmware needs an update. Could this possibly fix my issue?

I bet it bloody doesn't.

New firmware installed fine, but doesn't change the DP issue.

How do I start again?

OK well I just removed the device, and then added it as a new headset. But because the firmware is already updated it right away went to green and then back to searching. So no chance to even get to the sensor checking.

This was 21:36 - just mentioning that so I don't forget if it is worth checking the logs.

I have the logs now, but I've no idea what I'm looking for.

Worth mentioning that Oculus support themselves have looked at logs from this happening two days ago, and said they couldn't see any issues - but they may have been just looking for driver issues.

I wouldn't even know where to start re-installing Windows to be honest.

Support seem to have gone quiet again, so we'll see if they've given any further advice by tomorrow.

Can anyone walk me through a windows re-install without losing everything?

I don't think I was supplied with a recovery disc when I bought it. I have the Windows S/N on the rear of the case though.

Oculus support say they are looking into it and will get back to me in 3-4 days.

It's probably not a good sign that trying some different search terms, I've just found this. 3 months ago, and as far as I can tell, unresolved.

If you are talking about saving the programs you have installed, it's not worth it. Just do a complete reinstall and install your programs again.

It's more a worry that I won't remember everything I've got installed!

All media is on a separate drive anyway.

There's no huge rush really, so I might wait and see if they come up with anything before I go ahead with a re-install.

I may be able to take it to my B-I-Ls house at the weekend. He's the person I sold my Rift to, so already has all the Oculus software set up.

Not heard anything more back from support yet.

Yes, unless I hear back from support, I'm not intending to try anything else until after I try a different computer.

Here's a thing which has only just started happening in the last few days. Could it be related (or more likely, I have accidentally changed a setting when stopping all those USB ports from turning off to save power):
When I power down my computer, it is immediately turning back on again. Only happens the first time, and no error messages to indicate that it's failed to shut down properly. Any guesses?

Strange that it's never happened until now though. I've had the computer for 2 years! I'll check the settings next time I'm on it.
