Cool cheers, just seemed to be a lot of comments that the Yi Home app wasn't available anymore on iOS.
Ring or Netatmo Security Camera? Anyone got one?

cloud recording is there as protection for the fact if someone breaks in. they could just steal the cameras as well or at least the sd cards. if the recordings are on the cloud those cannot be stolen.
probably a lot easier to edit on the cloud, etc too. if you need to make clips.

Come to set up my Ring camera and... The app isn't compatiable with my S4 Samsung. I've never had this problem before with any app. Indeed the Nest, Honeywell, Yi, Blink etc apps are all fine...
Looks like it needs Adroid 5, and I have 4. So I have to buy a whole new phone? Daft!
Been on the support line for 25mins on hold! More joy!

There is an official firmware for Android 5.0.1 for the S4, might be worth looking to see if you can flash that manually using ODIN if your device didn't get that?
TBH, my phone needs updating, so it's an excuse to. So I'll probabably just upgrade so a refurbed S6 or something. And just do a data transfer over...

i now have a phone by the same company as my cctv cameras and dashcams too. redmi note 5 pro ai dual camera.
china seems to be winning me over.

i bought 2. a 4k dashcam for the daily and a 1080p one for the weekend car. they were both peanuts as well. made by same company as YI but sold under the XI brand iirc.

Anyone successfully 'hacked' their Yi Camera Outdoor 1080p model to enable access to the RTSP stream?? I can get the Hikvision NVR to record the stream if so.
I see a few threads about flashing the firmware etc to enable it, but they're for the indoor versions of the cameras.
Might send it back otherwise, don't really want a second app just to view one camera.

Amazon have bought Ring. Ring are yet to bring out intdoor cameras, although they are due.
Ring have a full home alarm system.
Amazon are highly into home automation, and no doubt would love to have facial recognition of who's in the house.
In our house for example, we have an Echo camera in the kitchen (via a Show) and a camera in the bedroom (via a Spot).
I wonder if Amazon could incorporate their echo camera's into Rings security application for motion detection and even facial recognition?
eg: In the Ring security app tell it if the camera in our kitchen (Echo Show) sees movement of a person it doesn't recognise, then contact us.

They have also bought Blink, they do outdoor and indoor cameras and I think they have just released a suite of home security things, alarm etc.
They seem to be running them both side by side.
Received my Yi camera last week and have been testing it over the weekend. Overall i'm very happy it, the quality is spot on and can pick up most details on things like cars & people.
I have it sat looking out the bedroom window overlooking the driveway, had to turn motion alerts off as i was getting tons of notifications even on the least frequent setting. Problem is there's a fairly busy road at the bottom of our drive and even though i've adjusted the motion area detection, it picks up cars going past, and next doors cats seem to know its there and enjoy walking past every few mins

It does record 24/7 to sd card and i can go back through and review previous footage throughout the day, not signed up to the cloud storage yet but think i will as planning on getting another couple of cameras for indoor and the back of the house.
Shame it doesn't have facial recognition etc but what it does do, it does well. But overall for the price i'm really pleased with the camera and its features.

You cannot have 24/7 recording to the card, and motion to the cloud. You choose one mode or the other, and that's the recording mode to both the sd card and the cloud (if you've signed up).
It's a shame you can have the settings different...
