I think it was proportional and reasonable force yeah, I'd say anyone seeing it would probably think it's justified. Although I'd like to see it again myself to confirm that.

Before you think I am a liberal that thinks "hugging a hoody" is the way to go, I also think that whilst that is the cause there is still NO EXCUSE for the way that these people are behaving. Years of being able to "get away with it" have taught them that they are above the law.

Just use a curfew/water cannon with indelible purple dye that takes weeks to wear off - and then just arrest anybody coloured purple in the following weeks.
