RIP Mondeo

Well worth whipping the head off and sticking a s/h one on to get it running though, a decent head, head gasket set and timing belt kit would cost peanuts for the Zetec lump.

Now is the time to find out how an engine is screwed together ;)

Agree with dogbreath. I'd get it into the garage and buy some bits, and make it a little project to learn some stuff. If you balls it up then scrap it/sell it broken as you were already going to have to do :)

This is what I was getting at with "fix it fix it" lol

What have you got to lose :)

Without starting a new thread on mondeos.

Looking at them myself the 1.8LX any good? Or should I be looking at the 2.0L Ghias? Looking to spend <£1k what kind of milage would I be looking at? 105k+?

The LX is dire. You can get Ghia's, (a Ghia X if you're lucky) for £1k or there abouts. It'll prob be way more than 105k but for god's sake make sure the belts and tensioners are done. :)

This is Ford, you're lucky to get something fixed in warranty.

If it was verbal with nothing in writing then it'll be about as useful as writing to the Queen.

Apparantly she always writes back, so it might be worth a shot! Odds are that it'll be more productive than Ford :P

Thinking Mk3 time.

Are there DMF issues with the rubbishy TDDi engine?

Do it, scrap the 530 too - a Mk3 will do everything you need :D

The only difference between the diesel engines in the mk3 is the fuel system and turbos (and capacity in the 2.2, obviously). TDDi - mechanical injection, wastegate turbo, TDCI 115 - common rail, wastegate turbo, TDCI 130 - common rail, VNT.

So it has the same DMF as the other dervs, although lower torque output means they're less common.

Given his love of BMW dealer servicing, I don't think Mr Fox is too bothered about learning spannering himself.

Not to mention can you imagine the flood of threads that by comparison would make this one riveting? :D

RIP Fox's Mondeo. The Motors forum should close as a mark of respect imo. ;)

Personally i'd take this opportunity as a learning experience.

If it was me and I had the space to do it, i'd have a go at repairing it myself and learning as much as possible about the inner workings of the engine bay.

What's to lose, a knackered Mondeo? :)

Infact, what Jez said :p

I agree entirely mate, don't get me wrong, I'm just hazzarding a guess that Spanners & oil under the fingernails is not Fox's thing. :)
