RIP MSI GTX 970

I want you to avoided same situation I am in, you should order a EKWB GTX 980Ti backplate to stop it leak into PCB.

It will just run under the back plate dude, making it worse.

I had a Coolit Eco leak on me a few years back and I lost around £400. Unfortunately Coolit are nowhere near as stand up as Corsair so just advised that I wash all the parts in deionised water. When I told them that the damage had already been done they just sent me a link to their disclaimer.

I lost two GTX 480s and a motherboard....

This is why I only use Corsair now if I am using AIOs. Mind you having said that I will only use Asetek branded Corsair units. I will never, ever buy another Coolit rebrand again.

I know you wouldn't want it to happen anyway but gigabyte coat some of their gpus with some sort of clear coating thing which can protect against dust/corrosion/water

God knows how bbq sauce simulates dust but yeah...

I've just bought myself a GTX 970 extreme gaming and this was one of the reasons.

Maybe these and the new corsair ones will be better quality then

Been 12 days since they got my 780 ti and mobo and I have still not heard from the damage team

@AthlonXP1800 Im guessing they aren't going to send your damaged 970 back to you?

Edit - Now 14 days and no email from them

Well got my reply today after I messaged them to wonder what was happening,

Hi David,

Our Engineering Team has completed a thorough analysis of the components.

We will replace your CW-9060009-WW with a brand new CW-9060021-WW.

We will offer the following compensation based on current market value:

GPU: EVGA GTX780Ti (03G-P4-2883-KR) – $340.00 = £ 225.21

The following components tested fine, and we will be returning them to you:

Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Premium - Detected all devices connected; temperature is normal

CPU: i7 3770k - Passed IDT; Normal temperatures during idle and load

SSD: Liteoit LMT-21L3M (not mentioned on DC form) - Detected without issues; no files

Please confirm if you agree with the compensation mentioned above.

The refund will be in the form of an electronic transfer which typically takes 2-3 weeks for processing and delivery. Please provide us with the following bank information:

Only just over 18 months ago I paid £505 for the 780ti from ****, they are offering me less than what it would cost me to even get a downgrade in an 970.

Absolute joke, I would have to pay an extra £60 for a new 970 downgrade

Sent a message back to them, and if they wont at least get it close to £412 then I will be posting on reddit and some other places

A 970 is only slightly slower than a 780TI, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1072?vs=1355 , and they overclock well.

Those will be reference level cards ^^^

The reference 780TI runs at 928Mhz, i don't know what the average overclocking is on AIB cards but looking around reviewers they seems to be getting <1100Mhz, about +21%

Reference 970 boost to 1178Mhz, average AIB 970 overclock to about 1450Mhz, +23%

So once in a users PC the performance of the two cards is as near as makes no difference identical. :)

Edit: make that 1200Mhz on the 780TI, so +30%. was looking at HardOCP needlessly complicated write-up that doesn't then tell you what you actually want to know

Yes I understand your trying to make me feel a bit better but if you go look at benchmarks between a 970 stock and a 780ti sc then there is quite a bit of difference with FPS on games. Right now with corsairs offer I could not even afford a 970 anyway so yeh. On reddit george from corsair asked me for my DC number and said he will look into it so fingers crossed, as I am skint for a while with 4 kids and having to make sure they have a nice christmas.

threads like this was why i went for a larger case and a chunky air cooler rather than a smaller case with an AIO, im just not willing to risk it

it was this thread that made me decide I was getting rid of my AIO and going for a chunky Air cooler

So yeh I am just going to accept the revised offer of $500, that will at least allow me to pick up a 970 with some cash to spare or wait a while until I can add to it myself for a 980

Still kinds not happy but I guess its the most they will offer without this dragging on for weeks

Probably a good idea to make do with the 970 instead of pinning your hopes on saving for a 980, the new cards will be hitting the shelves in 6 months or so (Guesstimate)

I say "Make do" but i think you'll like it. :)

Found the cooler leak on the 9th of November, took till today the 19th of January to get the damage money in the bank, over 2 months from start till end although i did take a week to send the damaged gpu away. Anyway I got an h100i gtx as replacement for the h100i so Im playing devils advocate and just using it. Now to buy a gpu....... yayyy finally.

I got 335 from corsair so I think a wise man would buy a 970 right now for 265 as the new cards will be dropping this year right? I hate the aftermarket coolers and designs I just like the reference geforce cooler with green led writing but think I will be forces to buy an evga acx model.

Yer, a 970 will do you well and well done on a resolution (albeit a slow one) :)
