RIP Paul O'Grady :(

I'm very drag-sceptic (I blame it on Danny la Rue and Dick Emery), so never paid much attention to his Lily era stuff. But after he'd given that up and I got to know and enjoy him through the Radio2 show a lot better, I belatedly realised he was a comic genius.

RIP Paul.
RIP Paul - He did some teatime TV on ITV and Channel 4 nearly 20 years ago and that was quite funny.

If the Big Breakfast launched today with Lily Savage as a presenter I can imagine how *some people* would react.

Wow that does sound super sudden according to his friends. Perfectly fine one day, gone the next.

Shame he was a great presenter and seemed like one of life's good guys.

Must have been a heart attack, those can come out of the blue if you had no symptoms before

I remember when Paul dropped the drag and stopped calling himself Lily and that was quite jarring.

He has had health problems for a while. A life of heavy smoking then dealing with 3 heart attacks and kidney failure.

I'm so glad I gave up smoking 20 years ago. Saw a cousin for the first time in years a few weeks back and he has lung cancer at 49 years old :( They want to take his whole right lung.

Paul O'Grady is an example of how quiet advocacy and a wicked sense of humour can get stuff done.

The thing with his humour is he never used anyone weaker than himself as the butt of his jokes. A very endearing quality.

As I posted above, he was scheduled for a special show on Easter Sunday on Boom at 14:00. As a tribute they're going to repeat the show he did on Christmas Day instead, if anyone is interested in listening.
