Well thankfully for me right now I'm relaxing on a sun lounger in Vegas (had to get that in there) and looking over the US prices I'll be paying around £230 all in for a Shield, haven't checked out GameStop etc yet since I've arrived here so will be doing that in a few days. That price is definitely what I would want to pay in the UK.

As for the review glad to hear a user experience and I think I'm definitely going to pick one up now. Luckily for me my R9 290 bit the dust and with the refund money I went for a GTX 780...seems like a sound purchase now with this in mind :)

Bye bye Nexus 7 it would seem :p

£200ish for the base model tablet is alarmingly affordable given the performance on offer. Even for a person looking for 'just a tablet' and totally disregarding any gaming or game streaming capability, the Shield represents incredible value for money.

comparing shield to the competition:
Nexus 7 2nd Gen - Better performance and spec by a long mark
Lenovo A10 - Better OS and performance
Kindle Fire HDX - Better OS and performance
Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 - Better OS and performance

nothing at a remotely similar price point comes anywhere close in terms of performance so I am struggling to understand why it needs to be cheaper?

If it was £50+ more expensive than the similar price point devices I listed above then I could see your argument for 'Nvidia tax' but it is the exact same price and performs better.

I don't know which place you are looking at for prices but I know from a curtain place all those models you listed for 16gb units are around £150 this nvidia units 16gb is £240 that is fair amount price wise difference.

So I agree with other person £50 nvidia tax.

I don't see the point buying this for games it's in same price bracket as games consoles.
 
I don't suppose anybody knows yet if you can use a USB pad with this instead of the official space station? Because this is the yes/no factor in my buying decision ATM.

How to use Xbox controllers on your Android device

A standard USB OTG adapter can plug in to the SHIELD and provide a usb port.

This port worked with my USB xbox controller and a ducky mini keyboard.

An Android device running 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher

I believe that wireless requires the device to be rooted.

generally we wait for the full order before we ship.

if you would like it sending as we get it, call our sales team and they will backorder the other bits we dont have stock of yet.

don't quote me on 100% compatibility, but it worked for me when I tried it briefly.
 
I would only consider if if you wanted the mobile data feature.

for someone like me who has wifi everywhere they would use their tablet, I don't see the point but obviously thats just my opinion. if you need mobile data, then you have to get the 32gb version.

remember that both versions have a flash expansion slot for extra storage if you need it.
 
Just wondering when the pre-orders will be shipping? If I order one today will it be shipped today to get to me by tomorrow or will it be shipped tomorrow to hopefully get to me by Friday?

I just called and was told the stock is due in tomorrow so I would expect it Friday with next day delivery.
 
we are expecting stock later today but this is subject to things out of our control like deliveries etc.
 
Hopefully myhermes won't throw the parcels on the roof :p

Seriously considering getting one of these to be honest, looks like a decent all around package and hopefully I may be able to take advantage of the GameStream thingy-bob
 
Yay got a dispatch email, as I'm in work all weekend the option to pass the time with this while messing with the network hardware will be awesome. I have got so good at Fifa 07 on my DS that I can win the world cup with Wales on the highest difficulty XD

Shame the covers are out of stock but I think I can manage in the meantime, don't plan on getting the controller as the community already appears to be working hard at getting the PS4 one working so ill wait for that :)
 
Great review Rich, you've got me thinking *maybe I should change my Tab 2* (which I use for a total of 15mins a week lol) :D ;)
 
i used my nexus for a few hours a week tops. mainly just for youtube and a bit of web browsing.

been using the shield pretty much none stop since getting it in a range of uses.
