Yeah. I need to get some more rubber padding stuff and some cable ties to reattach mine. I took it off after it kept coming loose.

I keep meaning to get my current cadence displayed on the Garmin instead of the average.

Cadence sensor on the front fork? That's some toe overlap.

The ones you see on forks as speed sensors for non-GPS computers. My cadence / speed sensor is in the same position as yours. I need to put a new battery in it.

One of the guys I ride with got some fancy new Garmin last year, but couldn't figure out why the cadence sensor didn't work. He'd got it rigged up so the magnet was on the rear wheel, rather than the crank arm. Quite amusing, especially as he's the go to guy for anything technical in terms of bikes, and he's always the one to whip out a bunch of spanners from his saddle bag as soon as anyone's bike starts playing up mid-ride.

Ah turns out I only have one sensor that reads 2 magnets...

I need cages for my new bike so I couldn't resist "upgrading" so I can put the old Elites on the new bike when I get it.

My garmin sensors duff I think

its only reading cadence so i cant monitor speed or distance while riding, as its trying to take that from the speed sensor which isnt feeding any data...

grrr..

Right. I'm just letting the dust settle on how much money I've received for my birthday, so am looking at new wheels and tyres for my carrera tdf to replace the stock wheels. I'm still looking at a set of hand built mavic open sport rim/tiagra hub 36 spoke wheels on eBay for £137 inc shipping. Does that sound about right? I'll then need some tyres. I don't want to spend masses, but I would like something with some half decent puncture protection, but also not too draggy and slow. I've currently got one gatorskin and one armadillo on my bike, and the armadillo at the rear in particular feels like its really sticking to the road at times.

Any thoughts, gents?

Been mountain biking for years and fancy a road bike mainly just for fitness.

My employe as just started taking part in the cycle2work scheme so ive got about 1k to spend which i know isn't going to get me much.

Can anyone recommend me anything upto 1k for a decent roadie ,Maybe a tad over if i can top it up which i know some shops will allow.

Thanks

Seems a good price for wheels, Planet X do some alu wheels for around that money that get rave reviews - UGO on bike radar boards rates them and he is a wheel builder so one would assume knows his onions.

As for tyres i like Continental and they have the gp400s or the cheaper ultra sports that fit your requirements.

These ones I picked up the other week are pretty good so far. And if I'm doing ok on 32h there's no way you'll need 36.

As for tyres, I've just stuck a set of these on in a 25c and while having pretty much the same puncture protection as my old Marathon Plus' are loads nippier.

b'twin tyres for ~20/pair - covered nearly 2k miles on them not a single puncture! :) i do have quite a few cuts on the tyres but nothing that has went through the tube too! and that is in london.. today i had a cab ran over a glass bottle and it just exploded the glass went everywhere including under my wheels.. no puncture that was surprising! it was really deep i think i even managed to break a bit of glass my self when i rolled over it.

i know everyone feels its good and stuff spending the "20-30quid" a pair but seriously i am damn chuffed with the tyres my triban 3 came and they costs nothing compared to bigger brands! :)

6.99 each.. jeez! even cheaper than it was.

if you have a shop near you its worth a visit..

GP4000S, they dont get rave reviews for nothing, make a nice difference even from half decent Schwalbe Lugano's.

For wheels at that budget point either the PlanetX that have been mentioned or look on ebay for something 2nd hand.

I'd stick with gatorskins there very light for the amount of protection they offer. May seem a little steep upfront but people get a lot of mileage out of them.

I can see why they dont puncture, they must be made of lead to weigh that much ;)

Gators are meant to be sketchy in wet conditions though. I've chosen to go with Conti GP 4 Seasons. Not far behind the Gators on protection but much more confident grip in the wet.

All of this is apparently as I've not tried either. I used to have Gator Hardshells but didn't get much use out of them before the bike they were on got nicked.

I've recommened 4 season mulitple times in this thread but I've just ordered gators to replace my 4 seasons which have quite frankly been total crap in the 500 miles I've used them. Thankfully I got them from the deal uniQ (I think) posted up a little while a go so not full price wasted.

The trouble is that the rubber is too soft, in under 500 miles I've have 3 punctures on my commute and the rear has already started to square off, before that I did 2000 miles of the same route on some rubbish kenda jobbies with zero punchtures.

I can see how each puncture has happened and everytime it has been a small bit of glass (once a bit of flint) that has embedded itself in the soft rubber and just worked its way in over time, trouble they cut up so bad its really hard to see where you might need to remove something embedded and they have so little rubber that very small shards can cause punctures.

Very disappointed in them... in fact I was propper raging cursing the crap out of them at the side of the road literally the other morning.

Oh dear, well I'll see how I get on with them as I'm sure every tyre has its fair share of good and bad experiences. It's when you only read consistently bad reviews that a tyre might be worth avoiding.

If you don't care about weight and just want to crush glass I can recommend the Panaracer RibMos. I think you could probably use them to deflect bullets too.

For the "Sunday Best" I think I'm going to try the Vittoria Open Corsa EVO CX when my Force & Attacks wear out. They seem to get rave reviews as being the fastest and smoothest clincher tyre.
