I have a little hair brained idea... Right. I have a Focus road bike with 105 group set which I quite like and Fulcrum racing 5 wheels, Good tyres.... I'm thinking of getting the planet X carbon frame:

What do you think, stupid idea or can I get a new bike with similar components and a bike at the same standard. SPEC ME! :)

edit - or:

The Nanolight is better / lighter but im not sure whether I'd notice the difference. Especially £170

Honestly Pro3s are racing tyres. One guy on BR is complaining that his have squared off after 800 miles and most posters are saying he should get at least 1500 miles out of them.

1500 miles! That's 8 weeks for me. I expect 4,000 miles out of a set of Durano S.

LOl, I've had them on the bike 4 days so far.
Not too worried, punctures are one of those things. My last tyres had two in two weeks
then none in the next five months. :D

Must admit, I think the Pro3 tyres are very good indeed, certainly faster than my old Specialized tyres.
I got 1500 mile out of those & only changed them due to a blow out on the rear.

I hate headwinds, especially when they ruin an otherwise lovely ride :(
When are you starting your tour? Are you planning to keep a blog for it? I did a bit of wild camping on a bike last weekend, it's given me a craving to get out there more...

I'm not sure yet. The tour I was initially planning to do has been scrapped because of time constraints, but I'm looking at spending a few days in France either late July or August.

I will probably have a crazyguyonabike journal going, but don't think I'm going to be camping the first time. At the moment I'm just trying to build up longer daytrips to get my stamina up. I want to be able to consistently ride 60+ miles per day, but I'm not quite there yet.

If you do a B&B cycle tour and have pre-booked your accommodation at +60 mile intervals then it doesn't matter how much training you have or haven't done, you'll consistently reach your overnight stay. It's amazing how far you can cycle given the thought of a warm shower, some grub and a comfy bed :)

Got the Northern Rock Cyclone tomorrow (107 miles). Up bright and early (5am) to get to the start in plenty of time. Aiming for a silver finish (6.5 hours) but I'm not particularly confident.

Looking forward to the National Road Championships on Sunday - Cavendish, Wiggins, Swift and Thomas battling it out in my neck of the woods is not to be missed. Cav will get mullered of course but going to be awesome.

Here's my road commuting bike :)

Fixed by bcjamesmini, on Flickr

It's an old BSA, stronglight crankset, on-one front and fixed hubs, mavics, and some 105 bits.

Its a bit small for me though so I'm thinking of getting a Pompino frameset to replace it and move my parts over.

I've also removed my SPDs so that i can jump on without needing additional shoes. Fixed feels a bit scary now without being clipped in!

Hey Guys,

Ive got a Giant Alliance Defy 2010, which I am looking on increasing distances now quite high, is they anything I should think about upgrading from stock?

At this time everything is how I got it and seems to be going quite well, oh except ofcourse clipped in pedals.

Thankyou!

I wouldn't want to ride with just the one brake (unless you know how to do the lesser known technique of pulling the front pedal up by hooking your foot under the pedal).

The rear is going on this evening :) Just waiting on a cable to arrive from my friend. I didn't use it when I had SPDs but it's way too risky on flats. I think it might become a single speed instead this summer, after riding my mtb a bit it I like being able to coast at times!
