Seriously, what shorts/bibs are you guys wearing? Do you really need these cream?

Mind you, the longest ride I've done is only 37miles, so not in the cream required range yet I suppose. I find my shorts and material ample for protection - be it from chaffing or saddle sore...

The best shorts in the world won't moisturise the skin it comes into contact with, nor will they prevent saddle rub.

What can I say other than I do a high mileage and feel noticeably more comfortable using chamois cream.

I don't use cream for 95% of my rides, but if I'm doing a century I try and remember to slap it on.

Same.
Also always use it when i'm riding my TT bike, that thing is like riding a belt sander :(

Can any of you help me with Strava?

I've joined the 'Take on the Tour' challenge as per all the other challenges and it has me as ranked 2948 with 199km however it hasn't put me in any of the leaderboards for following or for the clubs.

Can someone tell me if they see my name 'David Cross' in the list on the OCUK Team?

Leave & rejoin. It'll recalculate your stats.

Set my self a bit of a challenge today. Will be nothing to you guys but i think i will be pretty much dead after this one.

I am doing a 20+ miles trip from Chesterfield to Rother Valley park in South Yorkshire.

Route:

Need to go grab a proper pump for my bike first, the little hand pump i have at the moment is useless once at 30PSI. Think on a run like this my tyres should be on 35-40PSI shouldn't they? Guessing most of the path is gravel with the odd rocky path.

Just started hammering it down whilst making this post to, adds to fun i guess...

I might have to look around the house and see if I can find some old sudocrem ahead of this Sunday...

No offence, but if a 37 mile ride is the longest you've ever done then you're not really going to be in a position to need anything at all frankly.

My commute is over 30 miles a day, and I'm normally doing 50-100 miles at the weekend too, so it's fair to say I'm in the saddle quite a bit....hence why I brought up the subject...as some days it can be pretty uncomfortable.

It's pretty annoying when you're starting a big ride (as in 50 miles+), feeling fit as a fiddle, but a bit uncomfortable 'down there'.

I think I must be lucky that I don't have to slather my bits in slime - but on the flipside, I think there is a lot of value in a saddle that fits you perfectly rather than the lightest / most expensive one you can find.

In other news, I got the Gore shorts, but I got them from Wiggle because they were £15 cheaper than Evans. I used them this morning and I was very pleased with them. Not bib, but I need the flexibility of non-bib shorts for my usage.

I'm confident my saddle etc is a good fit for me, as I can comfortably do 100 mile rides with no issues.

The issue is repeatedly riding day after day, with no rest days for me to 'recover'.

I've been using Chamois Butt'r for a few years and decided to try the more expensive Assos cream. I was sceptical because of the price, but its actually surprisingly good. It has a slight tingle sensation, a bit like if you have ever used Mint Source shower gel near your 'man area', though not quite as pronounced. I would think it possibly slight numbs the area perhaps. Anyway, I certainly see what all the fuss was about and will stick to using that as chamois cream.

Bibs wise i have some Castelli Free Aero, decent but not fantastic considering the £100+ price tag. Got some cheaper DHB Aeron Pro being delivered today/tomorrow and they get good reviews so we'll see how they fair.
I also have some cheap Altura which are ok but noticeably lower quality (in all areas) than the Castelli's.

Its a bit like saddles, what bibs suit one person dont necessarily suit another!
I've also had some Assos S2 padded bibs which didnt seem to like my shape (i would deem myself relatively normally shaped though!).

Don't worry Jonny69, it's only a matter of time before you give in to the temptation of the bib shorts. Then you'll be smothering yourself in chamois cream for even the shortest of excursions! Personally I don't bother unless I know I am going to be out for at least three hours, which admittedly hasn't happened much this year...

The furthest I've done is 63 miles, and I didn't feel any ill effects in that department. I'll be interested to see how I fare with my first century this weekend.
