Is it wrong to be more interested in the fact that your Garmin hasn't recorded your ride than the ride itself? Mine decided to reset itself during my ride and I lost the first 30km or so, and I feel quite distressed by this!

I went out a couple of times earlier this week without my garmin (intentionally left at home). It's probably the first time i'v done that since i got it (more than a year) and it was nice to just ride my bike without worrying about the speed.

hows everyone doing with the strava challenge?

PowerBar Take on the Tour

Rapha Rising: La Centième

The Dirt Search

It's been a hard slog to do these challenges so I'm pleased with the results so far.

Just wondering if anyone here had their bike/shoes professionally fit? I'm thinking about it as I really don't want to do myself a long term injury, my right foot always goes numb both on my MTB and road bike, with different shoes/spd/cleat.

Drove up to Brecon to do some epic climbing with my mate who did it on a single speed. Tip my hat as it was hard enough on my Ti running a standard crank's

I wouldn't ordinarily care that much, it's just that it was my first century ride, and I would have liked to have had it recorded properly. Anyway, I did the Dunwich Dynamo this year, here's the bit of the ride the Garmin bothered to record - obviously I started at the same place everybody else did in London!

Observations; riding with lots of strangers is bloody hard work, and riding at night with lots of other people is surreal. I rode some of the way with oddjob62, but unfortunately he didn't have a good time of it. I doubt very much I'll do something like the DD again, but I'll probably do some more night riding as it's so much nicer not having to deal with traffic.

Night riding is awesome. Getting quite excited about doing the Exmouth Exodus next month for 3rd year in a row :)

Also just noticed I'm at 4090mi non commuting miles for the year  last year I just scraped 3k well on target for 5k+ this year :)

Still, it was a decent ride and part of me is glad it was cooler than it has been of late, as I don't think I'd have managed it in the time I did today.
That's a good pace to maintain over that sort of distance; I think you can be proud of the effort you put in! Do you know roughly how many people took part in the sportive?

Hard to say really. There were probably a hundred or so cars in the car park but a lot of people arrived in 2s or 3s and a lot of locals cycled to the start. Maybe 2-300.

I'm going to do the Manchester to Blackpool ride this year or the next. 60 miles or so, some good hills in Lancashire on the way through. The only downside is finding yourself in Blackpool at 4am

I'm about to hit 2k. I'm aiming for 3k for the year, shouldn't be a problem at all.

I'm about to buy a new road bike as my Kona Paddy Wagon got knicked and I am moving to the south west.
I'm a bit undecided on which bike to go for. I have seen a Genesis Volant for £600 which looks nice, but it is heavy bike at 9.7kg. The main alternative I have shortlisted would be a Canyon aluminium for about £870, which on paper is better in all departments other than looks IMO. I'm going for a test ride of the genesis this week, but I don't think I will be able to try the Canyon. What are peoples thoughts?
