Pain that you can't remove the BB30 without damaging it or spending loads on a fancy tool.

Is it press-fit? I'v just built a CX bike with a BB30 bottom bracket. it seems that some of them just hold the bearings in place with a circlip. Mine doesnt, it needed the bearings pressed in.
The good thing is that it's not very popular yet, so second-hand parts are super cheap. I got a decent crank from ebay for £23  any other type of bottom bracket and it would have cost nearer £100

oh lame seeing as they had no paid option for my order... I would gladly have paid for next day delivery via courier

Nothing you ordered seems to suggest that you couldn't have chosen a different paid for courier method.

I noticed on their website they have a free £5 voucher if you sign up to the website and newsletter yet I never got **** from doing it.

I've not done it in a long time, but in the earlier days, you could just sign up for a newsletter using a new e-mail address and get £5 off an order everytime. I think they may have linked the code to an account now though.

anyway my order is updated to
Hopefully thats accurate because I didn't order until after closing time yesterday and they can't have been open long...
I suspect it should say waiting to be picked.

I actually ordered some stuff from Wiggle yesterday myself. The order was processed yesterday evening and is currently awaiting dispatch. It will be picked up today and delivered tomorrow or Saturday. As I said before though, with Wiggle a paid for service rather than the free option speeds up processing like Amazon also do. Whether you are aware or not, Wiggle is actually a huge retailer, basically the largest global bike shop in the world now. So its not the same as a small bike shop which might have very few orders and dispatch your stuff right away.

Not to know if I've solved it until I ride again, only started after got caught in the rain last weekend.

Yeah, BB30 is a faff and I'm not totally convinced by it. On the way back from one of my rides I came across a guy riding a very nice Specialized Tarmac whose chain had dropped and become stuck between his little ring and bottom bracket. Only way to get it out was to remove his very fancy Quarq powermeter crank so the chain could be lifted it out. Just in the process of sliding the crank spindle out the BB30 cup felt out of the non drive side suggesting it was hardly the snuggest fit. I think beefing up the bottom bracket shell as most manufacturers do now is very worthwhile in terms of stiffness but I don't see any benefit to the larger spindle size and pressfit stuff is just a PITA.

I didn't have the heart to suggest he invested in a chain catcher but hopefully he will have learned his lesson. Not much point in a £1200 crank if you can't pedal. :o

As touch points out though, the cost and availability of second hand cranks is a definite benefit to BB30 though.

Press fit, yup.

Obviously if you have a spare BB you can hammer them out and use a length of threaded rod to wind new ones in with washer/nuts.

Just a creak that happened suddenly, don't want to replace when not needed and might not solve the issue.

Also in the news today, Stuart o Grady admits to doping, hence why he had to retire a year earlier than planned, he was about to be named anyway.

Claims he only doped in 98 before the TDF, I can see why people did it but its the lying about it...

One week old DuraAce 9000 shifter knackered. Great.
Ribble are going to test it and replace if they agree.

Knew i should have bought Campagnolo!

Only difference is that you would have needed a special tool to test the Campy one and since Italy is closed in August you'd be looking at a 10 week turnaround. ;)

In other news I had to go into the office this morning and Parcel Farce got off their bums and delivered my new frame whilst I was out so the Mrs signed for it and I wasn't there to intercept it. I'm going to get a deserved kicking.

However, my mate is giving me his 105 groupset from if crash damaged bike to put on it. Result.

Are you going to Race CX? Couple of guys in the club do it and love it, looks like a lot of fun and also hard work all that jumping on and off the bike? :D

How did that happen? Mine are as buttery smooth as they were on day 1. Also purchased from Ribble.

Noticed Merlin are doing full 9000 Gruppo's for £999 absolute "bargain".

Oh dear, what's your excuse going to be? :D

Yep, i am. I did some CX races a couple of year ago and loved it. I'v been riding my mtb over the last couple of winters to try and keep fit but i really need to do some racing because i cant push myself as hard on a training ride.

I thought that i'd be fine jumping on and off the bike as i do that every time i get on it (obviously) but it's really hard :p
The speed that some of those guys can hop off and on is amazing.

I still have a box and a half of gels. They've become more of an emergency bonk prevention tool for me as I now rely on 50p packs of fig rolls on rides. I keep 2 gels in my saddle bag just in case.
