I have a pair of Shimano M087 in wide fit. They've been replaced with the M088. They're pretty good value for money, though if you have exceptionally wide feet then you'll probably have to look elsewhere. I take a 46 and they're still not wide enough, but I have disproportionately large feet...

I ordered a new GP4000S for my rear wheel yesterday. I've not even done that many miles on the tyre, maybe like 400-500 and the sidewall has a little nick and bulge in it. A search seems to reveal that a lot of people have sidewall issues with them, which sort of spoils it being the otherwise perfect tyre.

They are supposed to be exhibiting at the Ride London show, so think I might have a word with them about it and what kind of warranty there is for defects.

Had the exact same issue with mine - got a nick about 1cm long in the sidewall on the front tyre about a month after i bought them. Tbh, i've risked it and kept riding on it since as it's not like it's all the way through the tyre or anything, but i probably should change it out just to be safe.

Might end up just going back to 25mm gatorskins - heavier and not as pretty but it seems the weather up here has decided it's winter again already, so i'm probably as well having the extra protection for flooded/debris strewn roads once more.

Anyone else manage to complete the challege for last month?

900km here :)
Just did my last ride before RLS100 on Sunday. A very mediocre 49 miles punctuated by my first ever KOM. It was very hot today and my legs just didn't seem to have it. Funny how you get days like that. Hope for slightly cooler and less windy conditions on Sunday.

I made it to 568km last month. I'll be aiming for at least 500km this month.

I'm well on track for my overall goal of 3000 miles for this year.

Managed to just tip the 750km this month. It started well but I had too much on recently and barely managed 40 miles in the last 10 days. I don't think I'll ever be able to compete with the commuters amongst the group, 30+ rides a month just isn't realistic alongside running, football and recovery.

How far to go until the 3000 mark Von? I think I'll make that my new target for the year too. Started the year with a goal of climbing 100,000ft and riding 2000miles but got there this month on both of them. Only got the bike at Christmas and in hindsight probably set my goals too low as I never expect cycling to take over so much from my running. It should be a decent challenge to make 3k given declining interest when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

100,000ft is really impressive, well done nydryl (& Damien too, but he does a lot of climbing) I've done more miles than you but I do commute and haven't done anywhere near as much climbing.

My goals for the year were:

1) 3,000 miles - I'm currently at 2,037, but that does include 11 on a stationery bike and some on my mountain bike.
2) 100,000 feet - I'm currently at 88,113, so I'll put this away pretty soon, probably by the end of August.
3) Climb 10,000 feet in any 28 day period - easy. Far easier than I expected. Borderline meaningless in fact.
4) Do a metric century. I did a metric century in March and an imperial century in July, so I've spanked this.

How do you find the time to ride that much daveski? I'd love to do 1000km for August but even that is a challenge around work commitments.

Don't have many other commitments I guess. This week has been a bit busier and I've only cycled about 60 miles and only commute rides.

Normally commuting, club rides on Sundays, TT's on Tuesday (either riding or helping out) chaingang on a Thursday then any other social rides, taking the long way home etc.

I did this on one ride. Killed my legs though!

I'm going to try and fit more hilly rides in for the rest of the year, I need more practice.

Next goal: Come on a Sunday ride ;)
