I've actually just been out for a ride. My Garmin was showing 35 degrees, in the shade! Its sweltering and really hard going.

you commute 33 miles each way? :o

I work 40 mile drive away but riding you can do it in 33.1 :) i dont get the opportunity to do it very often. Today im going to try a new route along the A40. I think its 2 miles at around 5% so that should be nice workout

I had two goals this year:
1) Sub 6 hour century - Completed - 5:27 inc 3mins stopped
2) Double century - Completed - 207mi & climbed 15k ft

After the double I haven't felt compelled to go out and ride any further than 50-60 miles. Didn't even get close to the power bar challenge with 1,193km for the month.

Up to 292,388ft for the year.

My next and probably last century for the year will be the Exmouth Exodus night ride in a couple of weeks.

No goals this year and I'm not even doing the BR Silly Commuter Stats. Kids.

In other news I just bought a 105 5700 double crankset for £75 from Merlin. That's cheaper than decent condition 5600 doubles go for on eBay.

I didn't really formalise my goals for this year but in my head they were:

Imperial century - done at least three this year
Alpe d'Huez <1 hour - just under 1hr6mins but will be back next year!
1000km month - not yet, but I hope to manage one by the end of the year

Having done the first proper century I then decided I would like to do 200km (managed on the weekend, very flat though) and 200mi. My plan is at some point to get an early train to London one weekend and ride back to Manchester to tick off the second. First, I need a bike fit and some new shoes as my feet were absolute agony by the end of the 200km ride!

I'd also like to make the first steps towards some racing so going out on a club intro ride this weekend to try and get some advice. I think I'm close to having the fitness but I need to develop the group riding skills.

Why is that? And how much was it, wouldn't mind having a go next year maybe.

I wan't to do the Fred Whitton Challenge sportive but solo sometime in August actually, so probably drive up stay over for a couple of nights. You can get them to send you a timer for £4 so you get an official time which is quite nice :)

After the double I haven't felt compelled to go out and ride any further than 50-60 miles.

Likewise, albeit only with a single century, not a double!

I think 40-50 miles is a distance I'm happy with at the moment. I'll build up to longer distances being comfortable, but that's enough for now. The century was hard work. The first 75 miles were OK, and then the last 25 were just murder. I was losing my mind by the end of it. I spoke to a mate about it and he said he's heard similar things said about marathons - "When you've done 20 miles, you're halfway there."

Both, but they sold out of the lighter ones.

They have some HMF CR1's for £450-£500 my size still seems a good deal, but don't like the thought of paying the same even if it's discounted when they were doing the HMX at the same price if that makes any sense? Shame no Foils in my size either.
