Can anyone explain this then? http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/1194/regulation/1/made

"“vehicle” means a mechanically propelled vehicle intended or adapted for use on a road."

This is how far we got last time.
Is a bicycle 'mechanically propelled'?

The term mechanically propelled vehicle is not defined in the Road Traffic Acts. It is ultimately a matter of fact and degree for the court to decide.

The subject has been brought up again because we now have more information.
The link posted shows that somebody has been to court and been given a fine, so i guess the court decided that a bicycle is 'mechanically propelled'?

CPS seem undecided on this, below they appear to state that a bike is NOT a mechanically propelled vehicle. But ultimately it is down to the courts to decide.

Prosecutors should only prosecute this offence when it is not possible to prosecute for an offence under the RTA 1988, for example:

when the driving was not on a road or other public place;
when the vehicle used was not a mechanically propelled vehicle (such as a bicycle or horse drawn vehicle);
when a Notice of Intended Prosecution has not been given (unless such a course might be regarded by the courts as amounting to an abuse of process).
When a vehicle has been deliberately used as a weapon and has caused injury prosecutors should normally prosecute for the offence of dangerous driving or a specific assault under other provisions in the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, subject to there being sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, for one of those offences.

True, however I'm not man enough to bomb down that hill for some reason!:o

I seem to feel more comfortable leaning over to my left. I'm just not confident leaning into a right-hand turn.:confused:

The trick with Broomfield is to be fast on the left-hander on exit rather than on the right-hander half way down. If your exit is quick you carry the speed on to the round about.

Watch out for the tree on the left apex though....

Every now and again I remember why it's cool to commute at 6am.

Must be nippy though!

Got the tube to work this morning... horrible!

I'm having work leaving drinks tonight and after the last time I stupidly rode drunk, never again!

It was last year and it was a very low speed collision. Only thing hurt was my pride!

I went into the back of another cyclist at a pedestrian crossing and ended up on my back the first time.

The second time I went over a drain cover and my front wheel dropped into the slot and stopped dead. I flew.

last time I cycled whilst drunk I got all the way home, but then cycled onto my lawn. It had been raining, the wheel stopped dead in the ground, I went over the bars and face-planted. Fun!

I ploughed headlong into some bike racks last time I cycled home hammered. For some reason I decided to turn through 90 degrees to my direction of travel and crash between two of them (as if parking). I just picked myself up off the floor and carried on my merry (swerving) way.

I lost my D lock during the course of that journey though :(

I am doing a London to Champagne ride next weekend. Although it will be signposted I could do with having local maps cached on my Android phone. Does anyone know of an app where you can download maps to the phone using open source maps.

Thanks.
