Does anybody "ride the phantom aerobars"?

I tried it and it feels quite good and fast. Probably not the safest position to ride in though!

It looks ****ing perilous to me! I've not got the confidence. I might try it on the turbo some time.

If I'm on a straight descent though I have started to get down below the saddle and hold the tops to increase aero, but I guess you can use the phantom position whilst pedalling too.

Yeah, a position for nice flat tarmac I think (so never in the UK!). Makes me want to try a TT bike as the position just feels so powerful and aero.

some thoughts on an aesthetic question please

black frame and fork, silver driveline/brakes, silver rims, black tyres

Black or Silver for the mudguards?

I prefer to ride on the tops of the hoods, i think it's just as aero but a bit safer.

Cant find a picture to describe it. Forearms rest on the tops of the bars right at the edge and the heel of your palm sits against the top of the hood.

I do the exact same thing, especially when I ride East, where it's completely flat for me. There are still pot holes and drains to dodge, with this position, it's quicker to react than the phantom aerobars method.

Also, my sportiff bike don't allow my arm to reach that far forward comfortably anyway.

I do that now and again

but I actually have a ton of positions that I use, depending on what I want to achieve

hah, this is a nailed-on winter bike. 28c tyres, the lot.

well you can't put a bag on it.. and you need to ride thorough the winter.. the better it looks the easier it'll be to cope with it ;) AND if looks didn't matter you wouldn't have asked that question ;) :D

I did it a couple of times before I got some aerobars, but mainly to see where the comfortable position was going to be and how low I'd need my handlebars. With a fixed gear there's little to no way to stay on the bike like that with your legs spinning round though :D
