I've got some awful Continental Supersport Plus commuter tyre on the back wheel that i got as an emergency replacement when my tyre exploded during my first sportive a couple years back. It is ridiculously difficult to puncture - only had one all winter and that was from basically a nail going directly through it.

The downside is it doesn't run very well, it's a complete nightmare to remove or get back on again, and it weighs about half a kilo!

Anything is going to feel pretty speedy by comparison once the weather improves and i can chuck some decent tyres back on the bikes again.

I thought the 4 seasons were a decent tyre, good grip in all conditions. I didn't find them particularly more puncture resistant than my current GP4000S though. I haven't used a tyre which still provides decent puncture protection when they are toward the end of their life and all cut up which is when I want it.

After my semi impulse Apex groupset purchase I want to use my old parts to build up a commuting bike and build my Felt up as my nice bike. I'm looking for a cheap frameset with mudguard eyelets. Any suggestions? I'm not a fan of the standard Ribble winter frame as the sizing looks weird. This Dolan looks like a good option? http://www.dolan-bikes.com/road/roa.../dolan-preffisio-aluminium-road-frameset.html

Can you define 'cheap'?

Edit: so about £200 for the Frameset.

The Preffisio should be a good bike, it's what the Comic / Sport Relief riders did their JOGLE on a few years ago.

Have you considered the Kaffenback? I think it will take callipers or discs and will take big fat winter tyres.

The Ribble is classic geometry.

Depending on your height I would have a look at the Ribble steel audax bike, it's a beauty.

I was put off by the short head tube on my frames size though.

Don't quote me on it but I think the Ribble Audax 7005 is a Dolan design.

I thought it was disc only but if it takes regular drop callipers that's worth looking at. I just want to be able to reuse as much of my current groupset as possible. Hopefully all I will need is stem, bars, and odds and sods like cables and tape.

Thinking about it, you may need to replace your brakes anyway if you want decent guards. The bigger clearances need a longer drop. If the Kaff2 does take dual pivots the you will almost certainly need long drops anyway.

From a bit of reading it looks like SKS chomoplastics will fit on the Dolan and the Kaff is disc only by the looks of it, not keen on buying a disc and wheel setup. I've ridden year round for the past 4 years on 23c tyres so I'm not too concerned with going bigger.

The Ribble Steel is Real must be in high demand, pretty much no stock.

That sounds like a good plan.

They sat the 525 frames are back in stock at the end of this month.

The recommended BlackStorm fork takes standard 49mm drop brakes.
