How long did it take to arrive? A lot of the canyons have very long waiting times so you might be able to get a lot of your money back if someone will save a long wait by buying a slightly used bike.

I think it took about 4 weeks to arrive, I've hung on to it in the hope that I'll magically be able to ride it, went out for a 7 mile ride along the canal path on my mountain bike and my back was sore for a week so I've got no chance of riding my canyon, I've also had to give up running so now I'm left with speed walking and swimming :(

Win +1
Carbon ones aren't that good in my experience.they don't hold the bidon as tight.

The Arundel mandible have an iron death grip and look so sexy compared to chunky plastic. /snob :p

e: Although you can't really complain for £8

Can I ask some advice please?

I bought a Canyon Road lite AL 6 last year for around £900 inc. Delivery from Germany. Due to an ongoing back problem (spondylosis) it looks like I'll have to give cycling up :(

I've ridden the bike less than 10 miles outside and done a few sessions on the turbo trainer inside. Still looks brand new. Never sold a bike before, can anyone advise me the best place to sell it and how much it's worth?

Thanks

Shame about the back :(

Usual outlets for listing the bike:

eBay, gumtree, bike radar, lfgss. Also look on Facebook if there any local groups. There's a really active one in the South West etc.

Just did another 50 miles :D
A different route this time that I assumed was mostly country roads etc.... (downloaded someones "beginner" route from ridewithgps)
At one point it was so bad I just had to take a photo lol
it was literally tractor tracks across some farmers field for over a mile :O and the actual track the wheels had left was basically covered in boulders as can be seen below.

ended up being about 20 miles of mtb style trails lmfao
Then at the end I decided to do most of my usual route to add about 15 miles to make it 50 and I never realised how flat it looks..

I think most people do the route the opposite direction so it's just a few steep hills where as I was travelling up gill for about 15 miles :D

Been holding off riding the bike for a few days to give myself some rest after the weekends efforts, hard work when it's been really great weather.

Planned to do a steady one this evening, especially as my quads were aching just doing some warm-up stretches :(

But as things happen when you go out with mates, we never really managed a steady pace not helped by another group of riders coming past us then not really clearing off like we expected and muggins here ended up at the front

Fine evening for a ride even though I was pretty goosed by the end of it, lot of other people had the same idea and I don't blame them

Even got some unexpected trophies, nice surprise when that happens :)

Ah..good to put a forum name to a Strava name :p I saw you comment on Andrea Thompson's ride earlier (I accidentally added Andrea when I miss-clicked whilst looking at physichull's rides). Are most of NCC based around that area? It's not terribly far from me :)

Yep the NCC is based around Warrington, though it's a pretty wide catchment area as it's a popular club :D

If you're not too far away, have a look at http://www.northcheshireclarion.co.uk/

and see if you fancy coming along for a ride - you do get some riders driving to the start points if it's a fair way from home. Cracking club imho, has brought my cycling along in leaps and bounds and had too many great rides to count :p

Ah..I don't drive so I'd probably cycle/train to a start point :p I'll check out the site and perhaps try to tag along sometime :) I also joined Manchester Wheelers a while back but despite doing tons of riding I've not got round to actually going on a ride with the club. I really need to be more sociable sometime I guess.

Tis hard sometimes fitting everything in, and you're still getting those miles under your wheels.

Nearest station would be Warrington Central or Newton le Willows etc, couple of miles to the start point for northern rides but further across the other side of town when we head south. The basic intro rides are all based north of Warrington.

Are you doing the Great Manchester Cycle or Manchester to Blackpool?

Not as far to travel to start those :)

(edited my above post as it was really awfully typed )

I'm down for the Great Manchester Cycle (52 miles) but not the Manc > Blackpool. I'm not sure if that weekend is free in July but if it is I might try and sign up.

Looking at gmaps it's only about 20 miles to Warrington Station from where I live and from what I remember of the route that I've already been on it's not too bad. As long as I wasn't cycling to the station, doing a century and then cycling back I imagine I'd be fine :p

Posted this in the other thread, but seeing as they sell tools and some road bike stuff I though I would pop it in here too!

I did the Great Manchester Cycle last year and loved it, bit bonkers at times and was over before I knew it but good fun :p

M2B was also very chaotic at times, lots of people on mtb's and all sorts of other stuff and distinct lack of awareness or shoulder checks before over taking people when there were riders in the middle of overtaking them  was cracking weather though and we did the long version riding from Blackpool back to Warrington to make it an added challenge.

New or potential members have to do a skills ride first - these range from 25 to near 40 miles on a constant 4 week rotation. Idea with these is to introduce riders to how the club rides as a group, calls and riding discipline etc and to get a measure of shorter routes first before going to full-on club rides. These are usually about 50-60 miles or so with a café stop included so you could be nearing a century by the time you get home. Course on these there's nothing stopping you cutting off if part of the return route is nearer to your home.

I've never done it (Great Manchester Cycle, I mean) before and tbh I'm a bit concerned about exactly what you have mentioned - people with very little awareness performing extremely dodgy manoeuvres without looking :p Hopefully it will be fine...

I'd be more than happy to go on a 'skills' ride before anything more serious to be honest. I'm used to riding with my friends and we've all done reasonable distances before but we obviously all know how the others react on the road. I think the most intimidating thing about riding with a club is getting used to the formation and signalling. Still, it would be fun..especially with the nicer weather we're having right now *touch wood* :)

The pace on the GMC really surprised me - the whole pack belted off at a crazy speed and my heart rate was going nuts. So much for my plan of pacing it for the first 3 laps to save something for the end. You'll end up riding in big groups for much of it and that pulls you along loads. We averaged 23mph for bit over 2 hours  Things to look out for are a few choke points where there's kerbs making the lane narrow all of a sudden, and sometimes passing slower riders it can get messy as being in the middle of a group you're unsighted and can get tight for room all of a sudden. Maybe not helped by people dawdling along in the outside lane of a dual carriageway. Great to fly through all the red lights and cracking atmosphere with people along the route cheering you on :D

You've pretty much got it regarding the purpose of the skills rides, one is bit longer distance with café stop, another throws in a few sneaky hills but not overdoing the distance. The signalling and formation ride soon comes with practice, if a numpty like me can grasp it you'll have no problems :p
