Cycled to work this morning. As soon as I got there I got a phone call from the mrs who said she had a flat tyre and couldn't undo the nuts to change it. So had to cycle all the way home again, couldn't get the damned things off either so had to drive her to work!

But you got the exercise all the same :)

Whats the distance from home to work?

Did you then cycle back to work? :p

19.4mph average last night over 32 mile commute. Was quite pleased with it as the heat was incredible! was actually looking forward to the climb half way through just for some shade cover:D

Anyone use clip on tri-bars with an awkward handlebar that tapers after the stem?

Maybe there are some shims, what do you use to circumvent them working loose?

that trail was a bit too deep for my crank arms at points I could feel them pushing the grass along the sides right down into the mud and probably leaving a pedal imprint behind :D

How much clearance do you guys have with your road bikes?
the bottom of my pedal to the floor is 4inchs with the crank arm at 6 o'clock.
The big ring to the floor is 7.5 inches

My hybrid only has about 3/4 of an inch more clearance but it feels like loads more

I've got about 3.5 inches clearance under my pedals

Both my road bikes have 3" of clearance, my 140mm fs mountain bike had 5" so less with me on it, and I can't be bothered to put the wheels on my ht mountain bike but that's a bit less.

Im getting there !

Just looking at my strava training page

this week, I've done 100 miles , been out 3 times at 30-35 miles each
im feeling stronger a bit now, my average speed has gone up slightly and im getting PB's everywhere, including hills just by riding normaly
going to try and get a another ride in tomorrow, that will make it 3 rides in a row then, maybe Sunday as well?

No ride for me tomorrow morning, I've got an 8 year old's birthday party to prepare for  Gonna go out tomorrow evening instead.

@physichull - you fancy going out Monday night? Let me know.

Yes. Yes I do, weather permitting, but should be alright.

Not sure about Rivvy though, its a fair cycle just to get up there on a weekday evening. Where do you think?

That's the way :) build it up a bit at a time and the speed creeps up just nicely.

Think my weekend will be usual busy one - nice route for club ride on Saturday out to Tilly's café Bunbury (well recommended)

Then also got another long-ish ride Sunday heading out (up) and around Rivington which I'm also fancying but people are talking about adding in some extra around Tockholes etc? which may not agree with my legs after Saturday especially as I've got to add more miles on riding over to the start point and home again.

Cool, I'll take a look at a map and see what I think. I've had quite a climby week this week, so something flat wouldn't hurt!

yeah seems to be working now that I am back in the swing of things

Has anyone got any experience with car bike racks? Now that both my girls can ride a bike, we're looking at getting a bike rack so we can drive to parks or wherever to go cycling. It needs to go on a Yaris, and ideally needs to be straightforward and wieldy enough for the wife to handle it on her own.

I'm looking at the Saris Bones, which looks quite promising.

All the rear mounted racks say you mustn't open the boot with the rack on the back. Now obviously you don't want to open it with all the bikes on the back, but can you open it with just the rack on it? We'd probably be looking at putting 2 bikes on the rack and the smallest bike in the boot itself, but obviously that won't work if we can't even open the boot. Or would it just be a case of having to check everything is still strapped in place once you've closed it?

Out to Dunham and meet at Glazebury roundabout? Its a nice mid point between both of us.

Do you mean the Greyhound roundabout? Like this?

It's about 5 miles from home to the roundabout for me, and probably about the same for you, so that's 30odd miles, which sounds about right for a fairly flat evening ride.

Or I suppose the roundabout by the school might make more sense for you. Probably easier to meet there actually, given how busy the greyhound roundabout is!

Yeah, I meant that one, there is a decent size footpath on the left side of the road just south of the garage to wait at.

Doing london to brighton on sunday, and I haven't touched the bike for about 3 weeks.

Going to go for a ride tomorrow so hopefully my lungs haven't completely forgotten what to do. Not sure whether to just go for an easy 20-30 miles or whether to go for a harder shorter ride.

L2B at 50 miles isn't a distance to worry about so a harder ride shouldn't leave me too fatigued for it, and might kick my body back into action.

Same - did it last year and the ride as a whole is more of a 'party on wheels'. If you're going to tke it seriously you will need to break away from the pack and start early. Otherwise just be social and poodle along (and fight the crowds going up any sort of incline)

Not decided what I'll do - more likely just have a leisurely ride down to the coast rather then bomb it down. Family/mates doing it so have a big crowd of differing abilities and I'm kinda the chaperone (one wants to attempt a sub 3 hour time but I reckon they are underestimating the nature of the ride)

I'm doing a leisurely 37 mile ride today for a mate's 37th birthday round Ditchling, Haywards Heath and Balcombe.

There may be a pub stop and an icecream at the top of Ditchling Beacon.
