A close friend of mine was knocked down last night and she's in a pretty bad way. Broken nose and face all smashed up, may be disfigured for life. No broken limbs but she's badly bruised all over, probably helped by the fact that she's a runner and triathlete. I was only running with her at the weekend and she was nearly killed last night. Bad times.

That's terrible mate, though good to hear she was in high spirits about it and doctors always seem to give the worst case scenario when it comes to potential disfigurement. My missus flipped her bike and all of the force of her + the weight of her bike came down entirely on her chin. Was terrifying to look at shortly after the accident.

What is it like a year later? Teeny tiny scar that you can only see up close.

It's like cycling through treacle. The way I see it;
1. It's safer no point being able to go faster and easier ride if the chances of being under a bus increases.
2. When it gets to summer thing of the speed/power you'll have gained.

Sold! I've chucked the knobblies on. My super slick bike now looks like the love child of a road bike and a MTB which is the shame. Took it out around the block a few times to ensure i'd got the chain back on properly (first time i've changed a rear tyre) and that i hadn't chuffed up the inner tube fitting and you're right, it's so much harder to pedal. It felt so much more balanced though so i'll feel far more confident on those morning commutes now.

Good call, thanks.

oh oh.... wife is going to kill me.

A planet x nano light frame + fork and headset package just fell into my basket.... before i knew what was happening i had bought it.

cheap though, £450 for the large in black.

I don't like winter!

Now I've got mostly over being ill I've forced myself out on the bike a few times. Horrible :( I got soaked through the other day and today I forgot my geeky headband ear warmer thing!

Gah. At least my new jacket helped, it's just about right. I get really hot once I'm going but it was just about right, I only had to unzip it a tiny bit after a few miles, so that's good :)

And it was only £27

I'm enjoying just getting public transport this week. Shame it costs lots of moneys and takes longer :(

Will be on the bike for the weekend I hope.

Got the look 695 in today and it's a thing of beauty. He went with the matt black with gold touches.

The headset system....seems complicated but it makes sense.

The bottom bracket....massive 65mm diameter bearings making it super stiff. Fitted the £170 chainrings to the cranks and it looks the part.

I have a crappy blurry photo of the actual frame but here's one built up from epic cycles. Will be built with ultegra but I think he'll be using his american classic wheels if he can't get the 404s. The C stem is a posibility but most likely will be a 'standard' zipp stem.

I got their sale email and was very tempted by a pair of Force shifters at that price even though I've already got tow sets and don't need another!

yep, some good stuff in their email sale.

To be fair, my 2004 allez comp does need a refresh. Now i am more flexible (substantially in ym lower back since having to give up rowing), the old frame is also feeling to small.

I'm not finding any motivation to go out on the bike at the moment due to the crap weather, looks like another roller session in front of the TV.

Cycling in the wind today made me feel like I was having a heart attack. I don't think the poor bugger has ever worked so hard.
