Am I being blind or what! I'm trying to find a reasonable single speed wheel set or just rear wheel and I'm having no luck? Every wheel set seems to be over 2kg+ when we have 1.7kg rroad wheel sets for £150! And there I thought single speeds were in fashion but it's next to impossible to get a good set/rear wheel! Grr

Get it custom made.

that'll be 300+ I don't feel like spending that much for a SS bang-around bike :o

£300 for a pair of wheels? Are you having a laugh? I'll bet you can get a set for half that.

I mean, sure, you can spend £300 on wheels, but it's not like that's the starting price.

Not being blind - I had to build my own.

Only choices really are deep dish alloy which are incredibly heavy, but popular with the fixie hipsters, or Shimano track wheels which are exceptionally expensive from what I remember. It's a lot easier to pick the rims you want, pick some hubs to suit your budget and just lace them up yourself.

Can only dream/grimace about the distances and elevation gain you fellas do.

This is my latest ride ride. 5+ more miles than I've done before so pleased with it

Suppose I 'could' go up the hill twice but tbh I don't think I would make it. Bit too early in my cycling career.

Jb

That looks like a good ride and distance! Much further than my weekend 'antics' lol

I'm trying some local hills for some elevation practice as 90% of my riding is my 4.3mile work commute with *no* climbing.

This one yesterday totally slaughtered me: http://www.strava.com/activities/191027856

But I felt strong, feel I could easily do it without stopping (which is the next aim!).

Is this the right thing to do? Similar distance but just more climbing, or should I do longer distance first? My stamina feels good around the 4-5 mile distance (on the flat)... I've not done further (not had time/target/incentive or friends to ride with).

Try V-Sprint wheels. Hand built a from Jess Varnish's dad. A 1.8kg set of track wheels starts at £170.

Wheeeee, made it to Widnes for the first intermediate sprint in today's stage of the tour of Britain. I'm fairly close to the line, so should get a decent view of it. There's a decent crowd here. It's right outside a high school, so there's loads of school kids out to watch it. They've not got much in the way of barriers, just the fixed barriers that are there anyway for the school crossing, no extra ones. There's quite a few stewards, though, so hopefully people won't be crowding in under the sprint when it comes past! They're due in about 15 minutes, I think. I'll get some video if I can. I'm quite surprised they've not closed the roads yet, there's still cars coming by. It must be timed to the minute.

I passed a bunch of school kids further up the road who all cheered when I went past, like I was the slowest breakaway in the world :D

On the way down I saw a girl in full wiggle Honda kit on a TT bike. She was on a Fuji, rather than a colnago, though, so I'm not sure whether she was the real deal... I'll have to check strava flyby later.

All done! Someone from Movistar went through ahead of the main pack - rider 102 apparently. All over so quick - it takes longer for all the following cars to go past! I'll upload my video later.

Thule 821 low rider bracket works a treat, bolted to some 2x4 then weighted it with a couple of bags of cement over the wood.

I rode the 30km back from site to town today which was nice, start of spring so had a million flies stick to my sun cream :o

With any luck I'll get a longer ride in tomorrow 50km or more fingers crossed as I need to get my km back up to 200-300 a week!

I think some races run a rolling road block rather than a full closure.
I remember seeing Cav riding in through normal traffic after crashing and losing a lot of time. Dont remember what race that was though.

The disc. Rather quick delivery and it's in remarkably good condition:

What are you trying to achieve? It looks like you've done 10miles four days a week for the entire year. All I'd suggest is just do a 20mile ride at the weekend in one go. From my experience, shocking your body by doing a different amount/intensity of exercise results in noticeable gains.

Fantastic seeing police enforcing the cycle area before the traffic lights this morning near Oval and Elephant and castle, actually saw them handing some tickets out!

Strangely, no cyclist seemed to jump the reds whilst they were around :| I really wish all cyclists paid attention to lights, it really gets me when you see them ignored.

Well I had my surgery, feeling quite well, had my first walk an hour ago which the physio was impressed with. So hopefully be soon able to get around myself.

Notched my 100th ride of the year yesterday, just shy of my goal of 5000km for the year.

The out and back route from Hampton for 18 miles at 22mph avg was a big effort for me, when I tried to take my turn on the front It was a massive struggle to keep the pace high. My friend kindly let me sit in for some recovery time on the way back in to London. Wish the traffic around Richmond had been better, may have got the elusive 20mph avg ride.
