I'd be happy to try and keep up with you guys if you don't mind me tagging along?

It's fine by me though I guess we should really decide on some kind of speed we plan to maintain. I can't imagine it will be super fast though.

140km is do-able. I started riding properly in June 2012. The longest ride I did in 2012 was about 50 miles. In March 2013 I did a 63 mile ride for my birthday and in July 2013 I did a 100 mile ride. May should be OK weather wise - when I did my 100 miler it was ludicrously hot and sunny. I have a tanline on my right arm to this day, no word of a lie.

Nice, well you do know rule 7, right? ;)

I have to admit I don't tan much when on the bike, probably because I melt like an ice cream in the really hot weather (so kinda avoid it) and the times I've gone out in it I've usually slapped some cream on (my mum is ginger...):p:(

Interesting ride and video, it looks very similar to one I've done before (same trainer class etc). Thanks, I might give this one a go later as it's not raining! (so that's me admitting to driving to work tomorrow again lol) :D

The nipple vents

 I've not seen bibs with nipple vents!?

That 700mb covers the whole of the UK and Ireland with loads of POI and contour lines. I just use a 16gb as like you say they are cheap. Also allows you to download other maps for other areas (like european ones) and just keep them on there.

Thanks for that Luke, I'm not overly worried about size (can download on a speedy connection at work - if not torrents! lol) and have several microSD & SD cards already I'll utilise depending on size required! :)

Meet up in Manc city centre, ride down to Wakefield. Then at the end ride back to Manc from Leeds.

...right? :p

Your own sportive, to get to the sportive, and back? :P

Went out on the winter bike Saturday, jesus it was hard, first ride of the year for me. 14 gears didnt help;) must but new cassette!

As mentioned your budget will matter most of all. All the Rapha/Castelli/Gore/etc kinda wear you will have to be 'really serious' about your riding (ie have a healthy bank account).

If you're like me and spending £100+ on a glorified long sleeve tshirt is too much then there are other options. Cheap chinese imports along with some Supermarkets (specifically Aldi) do good quality jerseys for £15. Although I've ended up wearing almost exclusively DHB Active wear from Wiggle due to their customer support, free delivery, free returns and amazing sales.

As for the fit, I was a fairly stocky 5'8", 15 stone, 36" waist rider and the DHB Large fitted me perfectly. Now I'm 13 stone and a 32"-ish waist I'm still wearing a Large in DHB but considering a Medium for some summer jerseys - with the Wiggle no quibble returns you can happily order several sizes, try them on and return the ones which don't fit! :)

Cool - thanks - will check out the DHB range... sounds like just what I'm after right now :)

Cracked Sa Calobra today, weather was almost as bad as Monday, but a little less rain, although it dropped to 0c at some points, and there was even a bit of snow to remind me of England, but didn't feel that cold. Was better prepared and had my sealskins gloves, and waterproof jacket on, so survived without catching pneumonia :P And made the killer mistake of leaving my bottles with too much fairy liquid in to soak, all I could taste all day, until I found the bottle I dropped on Monday when I had my off! :D

Great effort! Super! Brings back memories. The weather is a far cry from what I've been exposed to on both occasions I've climbed that thing! Complete opposite.

Was it dead at the bottom? Or were some of the cafes open??

Yep, same as all my friends, it was bitter, but I tried to push it up the climb and stayed warm, descent was pretty bad though, just can't get any heat into yourself if you can't push.

Everything seemed shut, I took a quick photo and went back up, because of the weather, wanted to get back asap. Only notable people were a load of spaniards digging up some pipe and all looking in a hole :P
