I have actually swapped out the tyres for a pair of 28mm :)

Did you notice much of a difference after the swap? I've considered doing similar when my tyres are worn out but after 1000 miles they look like they've got another 5000 miles left in them! Stupid plastic Kendas :p

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the results.

Doesn't look like much but tastes great!

Cold out this morning, good turnout though with 8 of us. Not bad for a 7am start on a cold February Saturday.

Sod that! It was freezing! Well done! I was out scraping ice at 8.15 so I dread to think what it'd be like doing that distance!

1st 20 miler :)

Not upto most of your standards but quite impressed I didn't quit.

Actually felt that I could have carried on if I'd been better prepared (food wise):o

Just wish the 1st 5 miles didn't hurt as much as it does, when does it get easier? :D

Welcome and well done, keep riding and the 5 miles will seem like nothing! 20 miles is a good distance, I built up to it as hadn't cycled for ~17 years (and was quite unfit). Started with my 4.4 mile work commute which utterly killed me for several weeks! ;)

Just been out for my first ride. Managed 8 miles in 40 minutes. Really enjoyed it!

As above, welcome and keep at it! 8 miles in 40 mins is good For a starter! :)

This mornings bunch:

First time this year i've not been dropped, so all the hard work on the turbo might be starting to pay off a bit.

Progress! :D

I went out for a bit of 'I don't really know where I'm aiming for' ride this morning

https://www.strava.com/activities/251539309

Not too bad, this puts me at 99.7 miles for the week, so just missed that 100 target :p

Also did an extended commute home last night, the end bit was a killer I never really do hills so the willsbridge hill segment at the end was damn hard!

Nice! Do a bit tomorrow and you'll have the 100! Don't think i've done close to 100 in a week yet! :of

Just did my first ride on Trainerroad. Couldn't figure out how to get the laptop balanced anywhere near me outside (where I normally turbo). Had to bring the turbo inside for the first time into the kitchen but that ment cutting my session short... Chose an easy one 'Pettit' but had to cut it in half.

I like it but I had a slight misconception - I assumed all/most of the rides had some kinda video to watch or instruction... :o

I did a couple of stands at the start to judge power outputs then a 130 cadence spin put for a minute towards the end... Not following the graph/guidance really at all lol ;)

Going to make the GCN energy bars tonight...pics to follow.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing the results.

That looks good, I made the river cottage peanut energy bars last weekend. They're nice but don't taste much of peanut! I used chopped dates, sultanas with sesame and poppy seeds. The sesame is too strong really so i'll probably try the banana version next time with more fruit - cranberries always taste good and i'm tempted to try fig (although unsure how that'd go with banana)

(I'll take a pic of the ones I have left, om nomnomnom!)

Got lots of rugby to watch (whole of Ireland/Italy game and half of France/Scotland) so gonna go on the turbo again! Weather is fantastic so kinda gutted I'm not out on the road but too much to do at home this afternoon for that (i'd also rather be on the turbo watching rugby than doing the ironing watching it!) :/

Strange ride this morning. BBC said temperatures were supposed to be above 0 over night but clearly they weren't as there was a lot of ice around. Took it steady on the way to the cafe & by the time we'd come out all the ice had gone so the return leg was a lot quicker.

12 mile run Friday, 45 miles on the bike yesterday and 80 this morning = tired legs!

So... Disaster struck today.

Just as I was about to return home the pedal snapped out of the crank arm which pulled all of the thread out of the crank arm.

The thread is completely gone in the crank arm. I only got the bike Thursday, where do I stand with this? I assume I will need to buy a new crank arm for it?

Yeah! Got the bike new I guess? With pedals installed by the shop? If so then you're sure as hell entitled to get it replaced :) if you installed them yourself that might be a bit different.. Normally, if thread goes poof like that it means that it was installed incorrectly..

62 miles this morning and they were 62 incredibly foggy, cold, miserable, damp miles. Not fun, didn't really see much as it was so foggy.

A number of mechanical incidents on the ride today with somebodies rear derailleur completely falling off on a hill and two punctures....thankfully neither was me so that was a relief. Utterly miserable changing a tube in freezing temps like today. My cadence sensor completely packed in half way round then started working again todays the end. Not sure what was the problem with it to be honest.

It was installed by myself. I'm unhappy that no instructions for the pedals were included though. I am right in thinking I can order the left crank arm on its own and that would be a suitable repair?

Thank you

I believe the easiest way to damage thread like that is to install the wrong side pedal into the wrong side of the crank, cranks normally have an "r" and "l" marker on them, for left/right side, same with pedals :) if you can find the corrent arm then yes, that will work! Just make sure it is the correct length/model.

Also, if you have installed the pedal on the wrong side then its only a matter of time before your drive side gives up.. So I'd check that first and confirm.

The left pedal (Which fell off) has L on it. after reading I think I may have threaded the pedal the right way on the left. Which is the wrong way and cross threaded it.

Ring a couple of LBSs (Local Bike Shops) - they should have a tap and be able to rethread the arm.

Ive just started build on my venge, which i bought ex-shop display. Ive noticed the frame comes with no internal sleeve as per the photo to route the internal cables.

Is this necessary or am i ok to just route the cables naked?

Thanks

Yes definitely easier with narrower tyres. I swapped as I was fed up of getting a puncture every other week, the narrower tyre was a bonus
