like? a frame would be what £200? wheels £150-200? disks ~£100, groupo ~250ish, finishing kit another ~150ish?

that's getting into "omg I wanna ride this everyday" territory hha

Hmmm, maybe, but if its for a runaround you don't want to be spending that much do you? Frames can be cheap (if you're lucky to snag a deal), good quality S/H parts can be cheap

Not to mention some good deals on S/H bikes... LBS might be a good place to start if they've had a trade-in which needs a groupset replacement (they may want to shift it without working on it).

WTF indeed

finally back on the bike

felt really good today, sun was shining, loads of riders out, a good buzz in the air made it even better!

Don't rub it in! I've chosen today to drive to work as I was having a PC case delivered :/

my knockaround/leave outside bike is an old mountain bike with no paint, with a hub gear lashed on. It's quite good fun overtaking people in lycra while riding it in jeans and a hoodie.

I'm seriously angry right now

My Stages power meter arrived today.
Having ordered it on 10th Feb and it taking 15 days to arrive despite showing as in stock. Then DHL missed the delivery yesterday as there was an issue with the driver. So it arrives today, I open the box and it’s the silver version – I ordered the black model.

I was hoping to use it this weekend for an event - grrrr

I'm about to pull the trigger on a B'Twin Triban 500SE to replace my rubbish old mountain bike for commuting. It seems to have glowing reviews, and is better speced than many bikes £100 dearer, so it seems a no-brainer for me.

If I'm making a big mistake please tell me in the next few hours!

The Dolomite is a great bike and reviews well, but regarding mobility and 'form' have you seeked professional advice regarding a specific bike fit to assist in your injury? A sports cycling specialist may be able to advise on an insole or other adjustment to 'balance' your slight imbalance. You may find that sub-consciously 'favouring' your good/better side introduces some imbalance into your form and develops an injury. The last thing you want is to damage yourself in such a way you lose further mobility, or the passion for cycling you've got :)

Thanks Roady , you're a gent.

Good thinking on the mobility issues and I am seriously pondering a trip to a specialist podiatrist/bike fitter local to me. I think after all these years of being lopsided its time to spend some money on getting it looked at properly. Maybe with a view to getting some proper orthotics not just for the bike shoes but for everyday life shoes etc

I'm not a huge fan of it either, if you absolutely need to save money then you're probably better off going for the Triban 300 (same bike with a steel fork). Not too keen on that Merlin either tbh though, it's old Sora with the thumbshifters. Otherwise, you'd be better off looking at used bikes or stretching your budget a bit for now. There are a few good deals still out there on 2014 bikes depending on what size you need. Felt F95 on merlin, Z95 on wiggle, a few good Merida bikes on Tredz...

claris is the old sora pretty much.. not much to say about it really, I'm still running 2300 on my triban and it still shifts OK... :o

No, it's better than old sora :p On account of having STI rather than thumb shifters. I've talked to a few people who are used to 105/Ultegra that have tried Claris and they all seem pleasantly surprised about how good it feels. Better than microshift at any rate, but even that would get the job done if you don't know any better.

The key thing is that the Verenti is available in a full range of sizes, wheras all these other 2014 bikes are getting very limited on stock.
