a 'race' tyre will feel very different to a tyre designed to resist punctures. between the same class of tyres i doubt it but I'm no pro. i hate punctures so verge more on safety. i was looking for durano s next time on my winter bike

thats the thing, how do I know which is which?

Just been out on my new bike (Giant Defy 1 - see above) - when riding it sounds like the spokes rattle slightly :/ a bit worrying. I've checked them all and can't find any that are noticeably loose.

I'm just wondering if this is 'normal' for a new bike as the wheels aren't used to having a load on them or something!?

Any ideas?

The poor sales due to wet weather might be counteracted by the Bradley Wiggins effect!!!

Should see retailers competing with some offers for the custom though now and in a few months when the weathers turned and the hype has worn off could be a few bargain hardly used bikes on everybody's fav auction site :)

My uncle races and says when he gets a puncture it's a nightmare as the tyre is so rigid and inflexible as they are thicker than my tyres for examply which are fairly easy to bend off the rim at the side of the road.

Hence you hry lrdd punctures which is great - but when you do you're gonna struggle!

summer tyre: michelin krylion
winter tyre: michelin krylion
all year tyre: michelin krylion
commuter: michelin krylion

:D

As of soon, it'll me the Michelin Pro4 Endurance for all of the above.

I've got 32C Panaracer Rimbo PTs on my single-speed commuter. So far they have been bulletproof even when I've accidently ridden over broken glass.

On my (yet to be assembled) road bike I've selected Continental GP Force & Attacks which are definitely summer tyres. 22mm front, 24mm rear.

Dry weather - Continental GP 4000s
Wet weather - 4 x Toyo T1R attached to a 106 :D

Despite the jesting, I've yet to get a puncture due to debris in 1000 + miles so far All mine have been pot hole pinch flats

tbh I've one "main" bike that does for 99% of my rides.
I'm not going to be changing tyres every day/week.
I'd rather go for something smooth than with tread.

Yeah, mine are only because I've got 4 bikes.

Treads on a road bike are of no use. I'm a convert to 25mm over 23mm though.

Snow: 35mm Schwalbe Marathon Winter

What sort of bike is that on? My main worry with the thought of cycling to work is that if it snows, or even if it gets icy, I'm screwed. I guess if it comes to that I'd have no choice but to use my ancient mountain bike.

I've just been out and done 25 miles. I could have gone longer, but it was getting dark and there's no lights on the bike I was using. The app on my phone is claiming I climbed 1,700 feet, but I'm not sure how it's calculated that, unless it's counting a foot for every pothole I fell in and climbed out of on the A6. I'm quite pleased to have averaged 15mph over nearly 1 3/4 hours.

Doesn't sound normal m8, no. Are you sure it is the spokes and not something else like the headset, pedals or cranks?. Or maybe even something really basic like a loose screw on the frame somewhere?.
