Doesn't sound normal m8, no. Are you sure it is the spokes and not something else like the headset, pedals or cranks?. Or maybe even something really basic like a loose screw on the frame somewhere?.

Does it front and back, when I lift the wheel up slightly and drop it down. So don't think it's headset, pedals or cranks to be honest. Very weird!

I've checked all spokes and none of them feel loose or anything.

The only reason I think it is 'normal' is because it is both and not just one wheel.

New machine built wheels will ping once weight goes on them as the spokes are turning back to where they should be.

It should only do it once at the very start though.

If it's more like a rattle than a ping.......the valve for the tube will be hitting off the rim. Wrap it with PTFE tape or electrical tape or something.

Something rattling inside the tyres, perhaps?

Don't think it is tyres to be honest. Definitely sounds like spokes/wheel.

I did get the ping the first time I used the bike yesterday. Wasn't on it very long though and I'm 80% sure they pinged again today when I got on too.

Could be the valve yes - will check that tomorrow or later depending on how long I can wait before it annoys me not knowing what it is!!

Re: The wheel rattle..

It's not the nut on the presta valve loose is it?

Could be. Off to check :)

Bingo! Took them off and no more rattle. I can sleep soundly tonight now :) cheers guys!

Schoolboy error really. Should have checked them but never thought that they wouldn't be tightened!

While I'm here...
Peoples thoughts on the Cannondale Synapse would be appreciated????

The dude in Leisurelakes recommended a 51 framed up one of these for the GF earlier today. £750-£950 depending on spec.
I wanted her to get some professional advise on what to go for rather than me rattling on about what I like the look of. :D
He went through a few details on sit bones and seating position and tried her out on a couple of frames even after she made the school boy... GIRL error of saying "I'm not buying one today" so respect to him for that..

Can't say anything bad about the synapse. I took a half hour test ride of a customers to try and find a fault and it felt stupidly comfy to ride, even compared to my caad 8!

Cheers Jonny, online reviews seem to say the same.

Might have to buy it from the shop as all online retailers only spec the white one. She had hers eyes on a light blue (Sora equipped) one.

Looking into the Cycle to work scheme for her on Monday then :D (teacher)

40 miles at an avg of 17 mph.
I thought I was taking it easy.

Looks like a good ride. (Although avg heart rate of 159bpm cant have been that easy?)
Your cadence is really low. I thought that my cadence was low with an average of 80, but you must be pushing a massive gear?

I'm using Michelin Krylions all year round, and they are fantastic. Are the Pro4 Endurance the replacement model for the Krylions?

Me three! Got a spare set of krylion carbons in black/grey to go on when the current black/yellows wear out. I will have got through 5 sets by then. Good tyres.

What sort of bike is that on? My main worry with the thought of cycling to work is that if it snows, or even if it gets icy, I'm screwed. I guess if it comes to that I'd have no choice but to use my ancient mountain bike.

An old Claud Butler hybrid that I'm turning into a cyclocross commuter. Lovely hand built steel frame with cantilever brakes an clearance for 40mm tyres.

As for tyres, im using Maxxis Refuse 23mm simply because thats what came on my bike. One pair were almost brand new so no reason to change!

They are slicks but the couple of times I have got caught in the damp/rain they have been OK, took it gentle around the corners mind.

Almost 1000km and no punctures/pinch flats (I avoid the potholes) ;)

Got home last night - knackered.

12 hrs driving each way to they Pyrenees (excluding Ferry and UK driving) is too much. Won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Lost 3KG hauling myself up big hills though, so happy with that :)
