Dolan make great track bikes. I dont know much about their road bikes but they seem like a reasonable price (not as good as canyon though) and they are ridden by Sean Kelly's pro team, so they cant be that bad.

The Team GB bikes are made by Metron though, not Dolan.

I'm going for the Specialized Allez on the cycle to work scheme, but ... the more I've been cycling around these hilly areas (on a friends road bike) the more I'm thinking the Allez triple might be better suited.

Many of you ride with a 2 chainring front set up and in a pretty hilly area, opinions?

Seems good value, hasnt it been upgraded a bit too?

Yeah. Carbon fork, 50/34 chainset in place of the 52/39 stock one, Sora front mech, just had a new rear mech and chain on as well, SPD pedals as I said. With any luck he'll let me keep the wedge bag, too :D

I could pay £200, give or take, for a boggo stock one on ebay, so it definitely looks worthwhile.

Joined the Strava club, Joshua Harley :)

Only doing the relatively short and flat commute so far, but need to start getting out for some longer weekend/evening rides...

Can you join strava with any downloadable GPS device? Or is it iPhone only or something?
You can upload GPX/TCX files to Strava, so as long as your device can export to those formats, you can upload your activities.

I have joined the group, my name is James Saunders. I don't bother to upload my daily commute of 8.5 miles; because there are too many traffic lights and junctions to make it a useful thing to keep track of.

I'm by no means a pro, in fact I'd say I was pretty damn slow tbh, but I've got a 2 ring allez. The majority of cycling I do is fairly flat, but I've been up and over the south downs a few times. At no point have I ever wanted a lower gear. If I did I'd be going backwards. If anything I would like a higher gear for when bombing down the hills. In top gear I end up pedalling like a loon and not actually putting any pressure down.

As you say, I doubt you'll get anything as good as that from eBay or Gumtree - not without spending a lot of time bidding on older bikes, at least. Personally I would go for it, if I were looking to get a road bike for that sort of money.

No. It's a great bike - buy it! :)
I've found another potential candidate for my daily rider; the Kona Rove. Not sure if it's worth the extra money over the Croix de Fer though, but it's good to know there are other options. Part of me thinks I should probably wait until I kill the Alfine hub on the Pompetamine before looking to replace it, as there's not actually anything wrong with the bike, and I've only done about 3700km on it. The other way of looking at it is that I could potentially get ~£400 for it at the moment, whereas once the hub dies, it'll only be worth a hundred or so. The question then is; do I upgrade from the Pompetamine before it's worthless, or do I ride it until I'm forced to replace it?

I know; first world problems, eh? :|

I was looking into up grading parts of my Boardman, and was trying to decide where to start, i was looking on wiggle and saw this Dura Ace rear mech for £152 . Im tempted to start there as i have a 105 on at the moment and everyone says they are crap, but i mean, it works and im not sure what real benefit it would be to change it? anyone else upgraded from a 105?

The difference in shifting performance between 105 and Ultegra is much more significant that between Ultegra and Dura-Ace RD in my experience. I would upgrade to the Ultegra RD and perhaps invest in high end gear cabling. The Dura Ace RD does look awesome though.
