Just curious if anyone has bought one of the cheap maintenance stands off eBay and whether they are any good? Some of the prices of ones from established shops are silly money. Ta :)

My experience is that if you buy cheap you will regret it. Yes they are a large one off fee but get a decent one and you'll never need to replace it.

Ok guys, I need recommendations for a front mudguard. I cannot fit even the extremely low clearance SK raceguards to my front wheel, and as this is where the majority of crap will come from that hits me, I need something for the winter.

I think I'll probably have too, but I need one with extremely small clearance, if anyone can suggest any.

Hmm maybe the Crud Catcher, but I'm not convinced that the clearance is small enough. Nope, won't fit because of the gear cables on my downtube. Bah, looks like I'll just have to get wet. That in itself isn't my primary concern, its more that the crap gets onto the bike. Ah well, maybe I should just buy a winter tourer..

Hello,

I'm after some ideas for a christmas present for my brother, he's had a road bike for a few years but recently seems to be getting more and more in to it.

I was wondering what I could get for under £10. He's probably got everything, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have more than 1 of something?

Lifesaver if you ever get a puncture in the middle of nowhere on a cold, dark winter Tuesday in January :p

You could get him a Buff they're only £13 come in a range of colours and patterns and they're great for the winter.

Well, I had no idea you'd moved! Where are you now?

I'd also like to say that, on a personal note, it's nice to see that I am not the only one with two commuter bikes ;)
Egham in Surrey. The new commute is just over 10 miles, not 12 as I thought it was. The added distance just goes to show that one bike can never do everything. I need something fast that can take the weather and suffer a severe beating and offer me a nice aggressive position while also letting me sit up nice and straight with flat bars when I want to and not have to grab for the brakes on the drops and soak up all the bumps. Oh and I also like to ride fixed but I like more relaxed gearing by the end of the week or when I'm tired. One bike can't do it all :D

so what exactly is the point of lights like that if you're commuting on well lit road? :) i personally laugh at people who have really bright lights and commute in central london! i would only use one to light up my path if i was riding through parks/etc but in my commute all i would want is something that is easy to see from a distance :o

not having a go at any of you just kinda stating that its pointless in my eyes when you commute in well lit roads :) i know a lot of you commute in country lanes and so on and that is exactly where a light like this should be used.
You get a lot more space on the road when you've got powerful lights. The types of driver who look you right in the eye and then pull out anyway just sit there and wait. The pool of light on the road gives the illusion of you being much larger than you are, so vehicles give you a wider berth when overtaking and don't cut in as early. Pedestrians don't walk out in front of you and dive out the way if they do. You can see potholes and other obstacles better. When you're about to smash someone's side window and give them a shoeing for deliberately being a **** you can shine the light in their face and they can't see to hit you back. Plenty of great reasons :D

Had my first puncture in over 2500miles of cycling today! So I thought it would be a good time to order a replacement set of tyres as they're getting well worn (already rotated back to the front etc) went for the same set of Continental Contact 28c's.

Gonna use the opportunity of my commuter being out of action to put it into the shop to get the gear cables replaced and rear deraileur looked at (it's shifting fine but makes a weird clicking noise constantly and no amount of tuning seems to fix it, I think it's taken a knock and is bent.)
