Slightly OT as it's a mountain bike, but does anyone know what kind of grease/substance is supposed to be on a seat post?
I was replacing my thumb lever collar 'thing' with an Allen key one just so it's less likely to be nicked, and all this grease was getting everywhere, and having noticed it felt a bit gritty pulling the seat out I wiped the post down, and then realised later that there was probably loads of grease there for a reason (sealing against water? just letting the seat slide smoothly? idk)... So I sprayed some GT85 on and slid it back it, but tbh in hindsight that was probably an even worse idea as the solvent cleaned off any of the original grease still there and it probably doesn't fulfil the same function at all... Any ideas?
edit: seen park tool polylube 1000 or weldtite lithium grease mentioned, sounds like they should be the kind of thing I want.
