Road Cycling Essentials

Well I can only laugh at the comments from people who think the cyclist was faultless. The fact remains, the cyclist was a douche and goes looking for trouble if you watch his other videos. I still think the Taxi left him plenty of room. Agree to disagree I think. :)

I didnt watch the program and only watched the Youtube video linked above, cant see why the cyclist is at fault at all. The cab pulls level with him and starts moving toward the curb.

Even if in other videos he is "looking for trouble" at least in this one he isnt doing anything wrong at all.
Infact you notice the motorbike further up the road going the same speed as the cyclist pretty much, would the cab have done the same to that?
Why doesnt the cab just wait literally a second and pull in behind the cyclist to stop or turn or whatever he is doing.

And yes i've been driving 20 years as well as cycling.

EDIT
I must admit i wasnt watching it with sound on (at work) and the cyclist maybe doesnt help matters by tapping on the window/cab (not apparent with no sound!), still the cab does overtake move towards him so the cyclist doesnt know whats going to happen there. I'd still put it 95% cab, 5% cyclist fault. The cab driver wouldnt of done that if it was the motorcyclist (i would say).

What do people use to really clean the hard to reach and tight spots on their bikes? Noticing some build up and just can't get to it with my cloth/mitt.

I find it easier to clean the hard to reach bits if I just rinse it off straight after a ride in the rain. I tend to just chuck a pan or two of water over my bike to rinse all the loose stuff off as soon as I get home, then run the chain through a rag to clean/dry it. A quick wipe round the rims to top it off and you're sorted.

If you wait for all the muck to dry on then it's a whole other ball game.

Anyone used Schwalbe Marathon Plus in 25?

Need something for my commuter, the cheap no-name tyres have a few too many cuts and holes in them and the rear punctured just as I got to work today.

I use the in the kid carrier.

For the commuter, if you are just on the road, the use Durano Plus instead. Basically the same tyre but in a slick form and with a bit more give.

They are both heavy and feel somewhat dead, but they are very very resistant.

Another shout for baby wipes, rinse or wipe down when I get in and in the spare room straight after. Job done.

Every 4 to 6 weeks I run the chain through a parktools cleaner and either use metholated spirit or cheapo floor cleaner detergent. I spray the whole bike in the same cleaner and rinse off. Wipe through with a cloth and then add finish line lube to the chain.

A friend also covers the exposed metal nuts and bolts in 'bike spray'. It adds a bit of protection and stops rust pentrating.

I saw mixed reviews about them so I erred on the cautious side and paid a bit more for Vitorrias.

I've got a set in a 32. I do a fair few miles (1400-1500ish miles since I started logging it in Oct) and they seem pretty puncture proof. I had a set on my old MTB too and the only thing that ever got through was a massive nail that hit hard enough to strike the rim and make me think I'd ran over a brick.
