Scubascorpion, your stats don't add up. 2hrs35 at 21.6kph isn't 61km. Odd.

Anyone using GPS use Strava.com? It let's you compare and compete with others over sections of your route and has KoM awards.

I mostly use CycleMeter at the moment but I think I'm going to move over to Strava... I just can't be arsed to move all my rides over!

Sorry hear about your off Saundie. You're alright, which is the important thing. Also...
my helmet is ruined
...is good news because if you hadn't been wearing one it would be your head!

In J69 cycling news I did Critical Mass on Friday night on my Bob Jackson. Ultra slow speeds close to thousands of other cyclists for 3+ hours is hard work on that bike! Also missed my train home so I rode back. It's something like 12 miles but with Crystal Palace in the way. Only done it the once which was over a year ago and I couldn't manage it with the gearing. This time I got up it with the 48/16 gearing on the Bob. Nice to know the old legs are a bit stronger than they were

Just heard that James Cracknell + Jerone Walters is will be trying to beat the LEJOG tandem record this weekend.

I'll be tracking their progress on their website and, as long as they dont go past in the middle of the night, i'll go along and see them.

Just popped over to cheer them on :)
They seem fairly happy, even bothered to smile and wave at the small group of spectators, i dont think i'd be feeling that good after 43 hours cycling with no sleep

They are still on track to beat the record, but only just - I hope they do it!

That Van Nicholas looks excellent. The mud guards almost look like a welded fixture to the frame. It would make a perfect winter trainer.

At the moment I'm still somewhat in awe of the VN, so it'll be saved for best bike duties, and I'll continue using my Pompetamine on a day to day basis. I've ordered the Shimano A530 pedals and a bottle cage, so I should be able to take it for a spin in a couple of days. I hope it lives up to it's reputation for having a "magic carpet" like ride. I'll just have to try not to fall off this one...

Need to kit myself out for winter and particularly the 100km sportive I've got at the end of this month. My shopping list:

- Cycling glasses (clear)
- Wind/water resistant jacket
- Bib trousers or leg warmers
- Overshoes

Anything else I should be looking at? I've got a base layer, bib shorts and gloves already.

I've got exactly the same guards for my Ti so I'm glad they match really well.

I also picked up some Ti bottle cages from eBay and I'm going to put 25mm tyres on it for serious comfort.

I just want my insurance claim to get sorted so I know what group is going on it.

I thought I'd step it up a gear. Weather was fantastic so decided to do the Wiggle NewForest 100 Epic route.

100 miles in 5 hours 29mins with 3 stops.
My bpm went to 193 which is the highest I've had it in a very long time, down to me trying to do a Cavendish sprint past my mate at the end. It failed as went too early. DOH!

Very nice ride. Oh and got Gold.

Nice run janesssssy! I've yet to get a run longer than 30 miles since getting my road bike - really need to get a grip and do it.

I had an amazing ride in the dark from my girlfriends tonight. Did take me 45 mins to do 13.22 miles 17.3mph average(through the city though ;) ) maxing out at 40 racing an astra to one of those lighty up speed signs.

After riding on the drops quite a lot on the way to hers today(loads of wind today) sitting on the hoods actually makes it feel like a touring bike! Might do some steerer choppy choppy.

I got one of those packs of RUBBER PATCH THE BEST QUALITY puncture repair patches from China turn up in the post. Seems like a much cheaper way of buying patches but I'll have to wait until I get a puncture to find out if they're any good

Managed 4 lengths of the (25m) pool today kicking. Bloody slowly, so slow in fact sometimes I could have been drowning.

But the foot. It moves!

Sure why not:D! Actually the great thing about cycling is that I can still do it. Albeit for 30 minutes absolute max at the moment, but thats because my leg muscles have gone. And when I say gone, I mean gone. It's a horrible sight; I used to struggle to get into my jeans because of my quads, and now there is nothing there - my leg has completely wasted away :(. And, what is left of my calf is like jelly.

But yes, I've been cycling every day on an exercise bike for a week now, its my lack of fitness that lets me down, the cycling action helps move the foot :). I'm just not yet confident about putting weight down, especially in an emergency, so will be a while before I get back on the road.

It's good that you're on the mend, hopefully you won't be out of action much longer!

In case anybody's interested, here's the obligatory photo of the new bike in the kitchen, in the highest gear with the valves at the bottom etc;
