Thats interesting, we have just been through exactly the same thing with an old bike my dad has - right down to researching the peugeot team colours and looking for stickers (couldnt find any).
If your going to get it powdercoated, i would recommend getting them to prep the frame for you. It's a lot of work to do yourself.
If you do prep it yourself, you can get a 'paint remover' drill attachment instead of a wire brush. Its a bit softer and is less likely to damage the frame (and, not surprisingly, its actually better at removing paint as well :p)
Its very difficult to get all of the paint out of the small corners in the frame, especially the little triangle bit behind the bottom bracket.

Post some pics of your progress - im quite interested in this :)

edit: Oh, also, buy yourself this :p
Well, I've wire brushed down a frame before, took me about 15 minutes with my angle grinder because its so damned powerful :D. But, yeah I guess long term and effort wise its easier.

So I just need to find someone who can do it for me - do you reckon they would be up for decaling it as well? As I'm pretty cack at that type of thing.

I have the Prendas kit ;).

Oh, well. Go for it then.
Took me days to get all the paint out of the hard to reach bits :(

I dont think a powdercoater is the sort of place that would do decaling as well. Worth asking tho.
Local sign maker should be able to make up a sticker for you.
Are you going for the white frame with little black chequers on it?

the Tour Down Under, which starts tomorrow.
That reminds me, everyone go and get yourself signed up at www.road.cc and do the fantasy cycling.
The OcUK league id is 75385
It starts on tuesday with Stage 1 of the Tour Down Under (the preview race tomorrow is not included)

The new Garmin-Barracuda kit looks utter ****, so I'm going for Omega Pharma instead.
Very much disagree with that.
The new garmin kit looks nice enough to me. Nice to see some argyl back in it, and i'm glad theres none of that orange.

Also, not such a fan of the new Omega Pharma. Nothing wrong with it, i just think that the Lotto team may have missed out on some of the better riders in the split, but they definately got the better deal in terms of keeping the team colours.

I have entered the White Rose Classic sportive in June. 115 miles 4k of ascent what have I done?

The 2012 Sky jersey looks like the 2011 version tbh I'd try and locate that a bit cheaper.

Haha, i forget that you do things differently over there. Most people i know use those units: distances are in miles, heights are in metres.

guys, if you were to buy a bike, where would you buy it ? online ?if yes which online retailer. if in 'normal' shop, do you know any good in London ?
and could I get a decent road bike for £600-900(max)
thanks

That's the beauty of opinions, we don't have to agree. It's not a case of right or wrong.

Argyl is hideous. The best kit was the 2009/2010 Cervelo TestTeam kit. Even last year's Garmin-Cervelo kit was nicer. And Garmin-Barracuda?! WTF?! Why did they need to put the fish in the center of the jersey? Completely ruins it :(

Also, not such a fan of the new Omega Pharma. Nothing wrong with it, i just think that the Lotto team may have missed out on some of the better riders in the split.

That's racing.

For your budget, I'd go for something from Ribble. You'll get far higher quality components than anything from anyone else. Look at the Ribble Sportive.

Having re-read my post, it's not very clear. I must have been thinking about something else at the time :p
Yes, i was expressing my opinion - not suggesting that you were wrong. (I still think argyl looks good tho :D )

That wasnt very clear either. I was trying to make a light-hearted 'joke' that although Omega Pharma got all the good riders, it's not all bad, Lotto Belisol got to keep the classy white-with-red/blue-stripe kit. (I didnt mean to say that i dont like the OPQ team, just their kit)
(Interestingly, OmegaPharma QuickStep have also kept the www.omegapharma-lotto.com domain :s. They also have omegapharma-quickstep but it seems odd not to close the old one)

I'm also a fan of the minimalist look and agree that cervelo test team had a great kit. Rapha Condor Sharp is probably my fav kit of recent years.

Have to say I think Cervelo Test Team kit looks great. They got that design right first time. I also think the old and now defunct Caisse d'Epargne team kit was a great looking design. Not a great fan of buying and wearing team kit ( each to his/her own of course ) but Caisse d'Epargne is about the only team kit I own. :)

nice one !

Last time Ive build my own bike from scratch was around 15 years ago ...
and I like the idea they would build it for me :)

and carbon frame in a bike makes me smile:)

I think I could either stretch to around £1100 or get it on finance.
and overall weight of the bike to around 5kg?! :)
thanks for pointing me in right direction
