As another Steely user has piped up I was wonder if anyones ever had their standby (or main!) steely blasted/resprayed?
if so are you pleased with the results? did you go to someone who just did bikes or anyone who does that kinda stuff?
thinking about having mine re-done after winter for a singlespeed project (may not be a good idea in hilly cornwall!)

Armourtex if you want a long lastime job but it does take a bit of definititon away from the lug work if you have some intricate detail, else its very good.

Mario Vaz resprays in london also, is quite cheap but isnt as good a quality as armourtex powder coating.. check lfgss, huge thread on both

My bikes a matt finish as standard so i will just rub it down then spray it with some primer, then a base coat of black, then purple flip paint. Ive painted a few crash helmets so im going to do it in the same way, then for lacquer, ill take it to the local bodyshop to be 2k lacquered and baked

Dug my old road bike from about 1990 out of my dad's dehumidified shed (he keeps his motorbikes in there), it's had a clean since I took this picture earlier this afternoon bu thought I'd share some retroness :)

Thats an absolutely lovely little bike, been looking for soemthing that good a condition to pick up for riding around town that i dont mind leaving places!

looks tiny is it like a 52?

Not sure, I'll need to measure it. I had it when I was about 11, I'm 33 now & 6'4" so far too little for me :D

There's a 60cm one on eBay with over 4 days left which has 8 bids & is sitting at £92 :o I'm shocked, are these really worth that kind of money?

its worth more. There is a large demand for 'retro' cycles. Especially now with the increase in the popularity of cycling over the last 2 months.

Ok, some quick googling hasn't given me a conclusive answer as there seems to be a few differing methods so....... how do I measure my road bike's frame size?

one like that?
bottom bracket to top tube
compact frames you need to take a level off the bottom of the headset and measure up to there,

tbh I picked up my PUG steely for £40 and all it needed was a brake cable and some bar tape, tho that's chromealite and not 531.
I'd love a 50-52cm 531 frame to use but I've no-where to put it!

On another note I've finally bought a replacement tyre for my secture! only took like three months!
Stuck to my budget and picked up these
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=78422
as they seemed to be the best value for that kinda 10-15£ range
will do a bit of a review once I've got them on and done a few miles.
if finances improve over the next few months I may invest in some better tires for winter and keep that for summer but I doubt it'll happen !

Pheasant (or chicken, not sure - didn't bother to go back to look, was in too much wailing) ran across in front of me as I was going down a steep (1:6) hill. I turned slightly to avoid it and at the last second it changed its mind and I think it went under my front wheel or something.
I took off into the air 2-3 feet and then landed on my left shoulder/hip and scraped along the manure-infested road for about 20-30 feet (bouncing).

Now I have no skin left on my left upper arm and forearm, and right forearm, a few other superficial grazes all over the left side of me, and a bruise the size of Anglesey on my left hip/outer thigh kind of area.

Oh and somehow a graze on my forehead.

Bike is going to the bike hospital tomorrow to find out the damage, but from what I can tell the frame/fork LOOK ok - except there's a chunk of paint missing from just behind the front brake at the top of the fork. Not sure about the drivechain - pedals seem ok, aside from missing some paint. Front derailleur got mashed/bent. Not sure about the rear one - scratched and possibly bent - left shifter definitely bent, but may bend back and be ok other than scuffage.

Front tyre burst, scratched rim- not sure what caused it to pop... Saddle is all scuffed up. Lost a rear light and my left shoe doesn't work any more (Scott Trial Boa thing with a spinny disc to tension it)... the disc/button won't engage.

Bleh.

It hurts. Lots.
