I've been after a waterproof that I can bundle into a jersey pocket for ages... Hadnt thought of Decathlon, but sure enough they've got jackets for a tenner. Think I'll be picking up one of those next month.

Mine's a bit too big to go in a pocket comfortably but I wear a backpack all the time anyway so it makes no difference to me. What do you do for pump, tools etc then if you don't wear a bag?

Pump is on the bike frame. Only tools I have are levers, in a saddle bag, but I'm planning to get a multi tool which should go in there as well.

Yeah, I reckon I should probably get a saddle bag. When I'm commuting I normally have my backpack on anyway with clothes and stuff in, but it's probably a bit much for a leisure ride.

If you've not got a multitool yet I can highly recommend this one. I've had mine for years, after the one I had before (same one, but they updated the design since) got lost after me being hit by a car.

I bought an €8 jacket from Decathlon for wet weather cycling. It doesn't breathe great, but its damned good at keeping water out.

Just bought some new look spd's and am after a good waterproof jacket, lightweight shell really to go riding with - need to get fit again. Can anyone recommend - up to £100..

Personally I'd say just get a cheap one and chuck it on when the really nasty stuff comes down. Overshoes are the important thing. There's nothing worse than soggy socks.

Good point, any brands i should be looking at?

I've just picked up a pair of these and they do the job.

My feet do get damp still when riding through really heavy rain and puddles but I reckon that's from water running down my leg and getting in that way. That or my feet sweating. They're made of neoprene so they do absorb a bit of water as they go, but they do stop direct splashes getting in your shoes.

Neoprene isnt waterproof and your feet will get wet when your riding in the rain or splashing through puddles.

In my experience, your feet will get wet eventually, even waterproof overshoes, because the water gets in the tops down your legs.

Yeah, they're neoprene with a nylon outer. They're marketed as 'waterproof' but I'd say they're 'water resistant'. They do the job for keeping random splashes and rain out but I don't reckon anything will keep you completely dry when it really opens up.

thats just what i was thinking, its going to seep down through socks into shoes eventually.

As above, I haven't had much luck and wouldn't rate overshoes. If it's raining you'll get wet.

Oh, i wasnt saying that they are no good. I like overshoes, they are quite good at keeping your feet a bit warmer, just dont expect them to keep you dry!

Best thing for wet riding imo is merino socks. They dry pretty quickly and still manage to keep your feet warm. On my last ride I came across a mini flood and carried the bike through, the water went just above my ankles but within 5 minutes I didn't notice any discomfort.

Re: Mini pumps I use a Lezyne medium pressure drive pump. Does 100psi without much problem (takes around 120ish pumps).

For tools I recently switched from a saddle bag, to a top tube bag to a tool tube (sits in a water bottle holder). Definitely my preferred way of carrying tools. The small fits a couple of inner tubes, levers, my house keys & some change. And it's much quicker/easier to remove and take with or put on other bikes.

I take it you use a camel back for drinkies then

He can't, its against the rules!

I am finding that i get away with saddle bag with tube, pump, tyre levers and keys in than putting phone + wallet and another tube in shirt pockets. I have considered one of those top tube bags just as it seems a safer (dryer) place for phone and wallet!
