I'm replacing my Trek with the Enigma Ti on the weekend and will be commuting and winter training on it.

Not sure what to do about pedals/shoes though? The Trek has straps so I can wear regular shoes/trainers on the commute but as I'll also be winter training on the Enigma I would prefer clips but have no idea which shoes are suitable and comfy enough to wear all day on a commute and walking around at work?

Something like these maybe?

If you are riding Ti then you need something suitable.....

I've never really used one before, whats the exact benefit, just being able to gauge exact effort across all workouts?

Power is the only consistent measure of training. Speed is pointless because it varies to much according to route, weather, traffic, drafts, etc. HR is much the same but is also affected by fatigue and any underlying health issues.

They appear to be pushing something called the Zelos at the £300odd point. It looks like utter crap. 14 gears and a steel fork. No idea why you'd buy it. They must have a warehouse full of them that they need to move.

yup! was 329 not long ago! and less than 300 on offer. :o
 
The zelos is a "spot buy". Think of it as a seasonal ltd edition bike for the christmas period. Sold on a "when it's gone, it's gone" basis.

The TDF started off in exactly the same way a few summers ago, but was so popular that a decision was made to introduce it into the main range of Carreras.
 
Cracked over 50 miles today, went out for a ride with about 17 others from work this afternoon although i had to add on another 13 miles to get home so that took me over the 50 miles line.
Pretty flat up around where we went but nevertheless!

I need a new saddle, the standard Boardman item is rubbish (i knew this already from reading various forums! Now what to upgrade to....hmm).
 
Got my bike back from the LBS. Gear lever has been repaired and the front derailleur has been tinkered with. Apparently it was bent.

Hopefully I'll be changing gears nice and smooth now! :)

It's difficult to pick a saddle I think since you can't get a feel for it until you've done a lot of miles on it. Also, one man's comfortable saddle is another man's PITA so reviews aren't that helpful.

Someone on BikeRadar mentioned he was looking to start a saddle testing business where you loan a saddle for a month for a relatively small fee to give it a good test. If you then buy it from him you get refunded the fee.

Fitted the new skewers tonight and saved a whopping 80g! I wonder how much the decal stickers weigh...
