I would be ineterested to hear peoples thoughts on quality and opinions on saddle comfort after 3+ hours. I'm assume its a case of each bum is different so there isn't an outright leader but still...

I've just bought a Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow Saddle and I'm optimistic, but also half expecting the air flow part in the middle to weaken the saddle over time?

What say you??!

Thanks

From what i can gather it goes over Anglezarke first and back through Belmont towards Rivington on the way back. I have had experience going towards Belmont from Rivington and it is definitely harder than coming towards Rivington from Belmont. (for me anyway :))

Well, on the one hand you have Belmont, and on the other hand you have the Moor Road Climb in Anglezarke! I've done the Moor Road Climb several times, albeit with a breather at the halfway point. I've not done Belmont on the one occasion I've tried. Coming over the other way is fun, though.

I will have to see how i feel at the marker where the route splits off to do the longer route. I just don't want to complete the short route then feel like i could have done the long one.

Yeah, see how you feel. The long route does have a lot of climbing though - I'm not sure I could pull it off!

I'm going on my own but im sure everyone will be friendly enough. Ive got a couple of mates who cycle in Bolton but they tend to cycle with Lancashire road cycling club and they have quite a fast average speed on their runs so i don't really cycle with them much at all as i wont be able to keep up. and my other mates who cycle unfortunately don't live in Bolton so most if not all my rides are on my own.

That sucks. I do my mid-week rides on my own, but weekends I ride with a small group of people - half a dozen or so. If I get a weekend sometime when we're not riding, I'll give you and [Damien] a shout and we'll see if we can sort something out.

ive decided to ask you guys, if anyone lives near me, that we could do some rides together, especially on Sundays, or to train with and the like.

If you dont find anybody on here, you should think about joining a club. Most are very welcoming to new riders. There is a clubfinder on britishcycling where you can put in your postcode and see all the local clubs.

Looks like Oxford City Road Club is quite near you.
Also, High Wycombe CC looks good, they have separate runs for beginners.

Dont be put of by talk of racing, etc on the websites, most clubs have a huge variation of members from serious racers to people who just want to cycle slowly to a cafe on a sunday morning.
Just make sure you have mudguards for riding in a group (because the spray off your back tyre is going into the face of the guy behind you) and take a spare tube and you'll be fine.

Cheers mate

mud guards on my Roubaix?

Something like 45 minutes but in my defence I was riding with a friend who was very hungover. :p It's a really nice climb though and the descent to Buxton is brilliant, even if I came very close to writing myself off today after making a real hash of one of the corners.

Agreed! It is a lovely climb. It is at just the right gradient/difficulty to allow you to take in the surroundings. And the flat/downhill part on the middle gives you a chance to partially recover. The decent is pretty awesome! I to have overcooked some of the bends! :)

I've done 100 mile ride on one and felt ok at the end.

By contrast, I did an 80km ride on one and couldn't feel my gentleman vegetables. The Spoon suits a lot of people but sadly not all. :(

Looks like there are a few of us in the wider Lancashire/Cheshire/Staffordshire area - would there be any interest in a group forum ride?

Have a look at Crud RoadRacer mudguards (and get the mk2 version if you can). They'll fit on most bikes that dont have mudguard mounts.

You can do without a front mudguard if you want, but you need one on the back because it's the guy behind you who will suffer if not.
