I've got to ask...what the hell do you guys do about having a sore arse?! Bloody hell mine wrecks. Used my bike for the last 2 days for the first time in months and I'm genuinely considering getting a lift home and leaving the bike here at work. Don't know if I can face sitting on that saddle again. Just got a bruised feeling on my bones. :o

Eat more pies. My squishy backside provides ample cushioning. Are you wearing padded shorts?

I don't carry much weight to be honest, I'm 5'8" and 10.5 stone. Yeah I have some Altura bib shorts with a blue padded bit down there. Is it just something you get used to or should I be looking at a better saddle? My bikes just the Halfords Carerra TDF.

Edit : I say 'just the Carerra TDF' it seems its now £499!! :O I only paid £236 for it in the sumemr with special offers, discount codes and cashback :D

Just been having a look back and it seems I complained about the soreness before and somebody recommended a carbon seat post.

This seems cheap? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/tifosi-carbon-seat-post/ Although the chrome part would look naff on my black and yellow bike.

Found this one.. http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/SPFSSLK/fsa_sl_k_carbon_seatpost

I did hope it was like when learning to play the guitar and your fingers feel like they are dying! Think I'll invest in a seat post anyway. My bike does feel incredibly crash but then I've never had a go on a road bike before.

Painful bum isn't great, it's not something I've ever suffered. You might want to look at your saddle position and then if the saddle is right for you.

I tell a lie. I did have a painful bum when I was using a Specialized Toupe. It was terrible. Changed saddles and never looked back.

They are massive so I wouldn't worry too much. I had a wee shot of the normal Arions and after getting used to them they felt pretty good. Louder than I thought though.

I'd use the CT5 tool on a 10 speed chain rather than the bmx one. The width of the tool will be too much for the narrower chain if you use one like that.

Thanks

i had a look on trustpilot (only becuase i had an email from Sigma sport where i got my bike from , so i could rate them) and a lot of people seem to not like them

Can you explain what you mean about the CT5 tool bit as i dont understand, thanks

He was talking to me.

It could be you just need to put a bit more time in the saddle, but also if your saddle isn't the right shape for you then you'll get bruised. For example, I find my Flite Titanium quite comfy for short hops, but it's very narrow at the front and on longer rides it leaves me bruised and numb under my perineum. My Brooks B17 is much wider at the front and I can sit on that all day, despite it being hard. I've also got a 1970's hard nylon racing saddle which is very comfy for me, simply because it's the right shape.

Just bought a new saddle due to pain, and numbness in important places

hopefully this sorts it, got a two week money back trial online to test it out.

I think it's worth investing in decent/expensive shorts. I have 2 pairs of Altura shorts which I got because they were cheap. I should have just got one good pair for the money because the Altura pads aren't really that comfy.

Its probably that you arent used to the saddle yet, i went through the same in the past.

When i got a new saddle i got pain underneath and found that it was a tad raised at the front. Dropped it 5-10mm at the front and it was fine.
Still got to try (or break in) a Fizik Arione but its on my "best bike" and the weather hasnt been great! :(

dunno what happened today but top of my knee is just soooo painful.. it kinda "cracked" around ~9 miles in my morning commute and it felt uncomfortable at work(walking/putting weight on) riding back home was painful too! :/ i've been taking it easy-ish every morning for a couple of miles just to warm up but i guess thats not enough!

Are you using the appropriate gears to maintain a high-ish cadence? Pushing a hard gear at a low cadence will hurt your knees.

I'm keeping an eye on mine. Since I switched to 48-17 on my single speed I've noticed a bit of knee ache. Might drop it down to 48-18 next time I have to replace the rear sprocket.

nope, i normally keep a high gear.. :o i guess starting/stopping at traffic lights + high gears do a lot of harm to my knee, tomorrow ill try taking it even slower for the first ~3 miles and warm up properly! - this is of course if the pain goes away over night.

funny thing is, this is the knee that never got injured! the other knee had all kinds of injuries! one that made me sit at home for a month and then took 1.5 years for pain to go away!

a cadence sensor is a god send!
i try and keep above 90 now

how do you do power training ? is that best to tackle hills keeping as high cadence as possible so not to hurt your knees?

If it's painful when you walk on it and you're apprehensive to put load on it with your knee slightly bent (as you would when walking) yet it's fine when you walk with a locked knee then it may be a fat pad impingement.

It probably isn't but I suffer from it and it's really painful when it flares up. I get it feeling 'delicate' for want of a better term but then putting weight on it 'pop's it out of where it's pinched (with a very audible noise) and then it's fine. It feels like it clicks back into place when it does that, but it's the fat pad being snapped back into position.

Edit: And yeah, I used to mash high gears all the time.

Have you had a bike fitting?
