With regards to the Ebay clone lights, how have people waterproofed the battery and the lead connector? I assume that getting wet was the reason my light no longer works.

Yes the battery pack is not waterproof at most splash proof, so I put my battery pack in a water bottle.w8

I'm contemplating printing this out, having it framed, and hanging it on the wall in the office. I recall the look of disgust you gave my Pompetamine's 32mm tyres, and the gleam of joy in your eyes when you told me your tyres were 20mm.

Next you'll be telling me you have a jacket that you don't need to fasten with a safety pin!
:p :p :p

Apart from our ride out, I think I only did about 15-20 miles on those tyres. They were so skinny I was genuinely worried for my freshly-built rims that I had spent hours truing up. I was so relieved when I put the 27 x 1/14" wheelset back on

Depends whether the tyres are clinchers or tubs. You can ride with flat tubs without damaging the wheels.

I'v tried that, it doesnt work too well.
I punctured after 20 miles in a 22 mile time trial. It was a 2up as well, so i didnt really want to stop. I rode on the flat for a bit but i had to stop, im fairly sure it would have damaged the rim if i didnt. Tubular rims are not flat and the edges stick out similar to (but not as much) as clinchers and they take some fairly hard hits with no air in the tyre.
Mine are carbon rims, but i think you could probably ride on alloy tubs because even if you did dent the edges of the rim, it wouldnt have the same problems as a clincher where the outer edge holds the tyre in place.

what backpacks are you guys using ? if any ?
I was thinking about bigger saddle post carrier thingy..not sure how it is called..but few times you have mentioned it is not good idea on carbon seat posts ?

Carbon seat posts take your weight, don't they? They are also designed to be compressed as that's how they are held in the seat tube.

Bags I ride with:

Rapha large shoulder bag - cool as fup and smart enough to take to board meetings
Ortleib Velocity - big, yellow and 100% waterproof
Alp Kit Gourdon 20l - small, orange, compressable and 100% waterproof
Crumpler Hairy Lee - like the tardis.

oh , didnt know that, thanks

so whats the idfference in those type of tyres? and hoes does it reflect the flat tyre ride?

Tubular tyres are glued to the rim, so they can't really come off in the same way a clincher tyre would. If you think about BMW run flats, it's broadly the same principle. That's not to say it's infallible, it isn't. If you're close to home and need to get back then you'd be able to do it. Slowly.

Tubulars have better rolling resistance and offer a smoother ride, but the downside is repairing a puncture is a royal PITA if you're on a training ride.

As above mate, I wasn't suggesting you could continue to race on them, but you can keep going if it's not too far to the end.

I've got my studded (or as the gf likes to call them, girly diamonte) tyres in ready. I'm a bit apprehensive putting them on this early though while it's still relatively ice free. At the first sign of snow though they're going on.

I have a clothing question...

I currently have DHB bib shorts that i put some DHB roubaix tights over, overshoes over my Shimano shoes and im quite happy with lower half cover. I then have a Gore Phantom jacket that i tend to wear over a football l/s base layer - i havent been out in december as i have the lurgi.

I got some birthday dosh so i have 100ish to spend on new spangly stuff, but if i spend £200 at CRC you get 40 off so seems to good a deal to miss ;)

I really fancy this l/s jersey - Castelli Contatto Full Zip Jersey AW12 but im not sure where it will fit into my cycling - i assume on its own its not going to be warm enough until spring?

Then i think maybe i should just get some really decent bibs for longer rides, not sure i can justify Asos yet but what else around 50-70 is worth a look??
