Road Cycling Essentials

im using the yellow cleats, and from what youve just put shamrock and Uniq, ive been wondering why its not easy to uncleat, as i have to turn my foot a LOT for it to unclip, i personaly feel its too much and i want to unclip sooner, but i havent adjusted the strength in the pedals yet

That sounds more like you need to play with the 'tension adjustment' on the actual pedals. The float is generally more knee friendly. Quite tempted to try the blues though.

I'm thinking this year of cycling to a coast - had my road bike for about 18months now and wanted to cycle to Skegness last year but for one reason or another it never happened.

This year I'm thinking 1 step further - I'll go Skegness with guys from the cycling club which won't be an issue.

I'm thinking that for the one I want to do it will be to Grimsby.

Day 1:
So 115miles there - then 20 miles back to Market Rasen to stop at a friends. Budgeting on 15 mph so 9hrs hopefully. Total 135miles.
Day 2:
Skydive then back to mates to stop the night again.
Day 3:
Cycle the 95 miles back. Budgeting on 15 mph so 7hrs hopefully

What sort of things do i need to look at to prepare for it?
Got all the kit (lights/clothing/spare innertubes etc) although been told the Aldi stuff is only any good for an hour at a time.

Then it begins... I took the horrible heavy mountain bike out for 10 miles. Pretty slow, which is probably partly the bike and partly me being out of practise. I'm going to have to get my new mudguards on my road bike so I can get out on that again.
How easy are SKS Chromoplastics to fit? I'm pretty sure my TDF has got proper mudguard mount points, so I'm guessing that will help.

Oh yeah, I took out my new GPS logger, and while I also had my phone logging me, it did appear to do a better job of keeping track of me. I think I'll probably keep using my phone until I figure out how to really work with the GPS logger, but it'll certainly come in handy when I get to longer rides and until I can afford a proper Garmin or whatever.

These are basically Yishun IAL27C which quite a few people on velo build and weight weenies use, but not much can go wrong... Kinlin rims and chosen hubs are decent, and I already have the same spokes on my carbon wheels and they have been fine. Even if they turn up not trued I'll take them to a LBS and still save a lot of cash.

I don't commute in winter on carbon wheels simply because braking will never be as good as alloy wheels and you really need it cycling through the city centre, so these new alloy wheels will go on my commuter, which is still a nice carbon bike.

I do do weekend winter rides on my chinese carbon wheels though, they're fantastic, I can't fault them... just gave them a wipe down on my full 100% chinese carbon special after I was out today :) :

how much did that end up costing you then?

Depends how understanding the people underneath you are and what time you're planning to use it, but it's no louder than a washing machine or similar would be and the mat should dampen some of the noise and vibration.

well currently there is no one living below. so hopefully should be fine
just wonder when they'll come back in stock
