Agree with above I have both on two different bikes, and only reason to go for raceblades would be if cruds don't fit as they do require more clearance or you need to remove/reattach them a lot for transport etc cruds are a pain for this.

Mudguard wise, I use a rear only. Got it from the Edinburgh Bike Co-op, Revolution Protect, one of these:-

This is the only recent pic I have of it on the bike after a mornings commute to work:-

Fits easily and quickly and keeps the road spray off your back very well. Not felt the need to use the front one as yet.

Saddle wise, I've tried a fair few. Had a Fizik Arione and thought it was as comfortable as sitting on a razor blade, despite many positive reviews. But saddles are a very personal and subjective thing so I guess my backside just didn't like the Arione. After years of searching I finally found the most comfortable sadlle I've ever perched my posterior on - Specialized Alias 143. My 'Holy grail' of saddles. As comfortable as a very comfortable thing. :)

Better coverage, seem to fit better for my frame, cheap, look better.

hmm they did look fine for coverage tbh, but i had cruds and they were fine until the front one exploded.. so im thinking either get them again or raceblades.. but i guess ill just go with cruds i know they work.. and hopefully it wont go the same way again..

grudas - actually try emailing crud. A lot of people on the internets say they are pretty good at sending out replacements if something goes a bit fubar.

What exactly exploded? The whole mudguard or just the main big part?

I started my Sportive training last week and yesterday when my guys from the cycling club (one of the high up guys that organises and does the rides every week) asked me if i was comming to the usual club run on Sunday , so when i replied with "depends what my training plans are" he laughed as to say "you dont need to do any training"

but that doesent make sense though does it? i mean,

I have hit a peak and i need to get better, so im training, Bradly Wiggins or Laura Trott or Mark Cavendish etc etc dont just start riding at say aged 25 and jump straight to Elite level, how do they get to Elite level? they train doent they?

"Training is like fighting a gorilla. You don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired."

Whenever I'm out and finding it hard going I tell myself it's training for whenever I get round to doing LEJOG. It's all training. So yeah, if you want to improve, then you train.

Definitely consider any time you can get on your bike as training even a run to the park with the gf helps,

sometimes if im knackered after a long day, i get to the only decent climb on my commute home, get to the top knackered and decide to go down and do it again, every little helps!

i hate it when you hit that wall, and you say to your self "i cant be bothered now" u cant go any faster as your lactate has built up, god i hate that

Depends what he means. He might have meant it in the way that the sunday club run is probably the best training that you can do at that level.

ive been riding with them twice a week since i joined the club back in November

we once went on a high pace ride, becuase all the "guys" where there (about 8 of us i think) and they left me right near the end, i managed to keep up "just"

This illustrated my point perfectly :p.

It's easy to do that on your own. You say to yourself "i cant be bothered now". It's much harder to say that when you're in a bunch, you can push yourself harder to stay on.

Well, training can mean different things to different people. Unless you wanna be leet or cat 1/2 it's a bit of a loose term. I got pretty fit by just riding and chasing buses/cars/KOMs on Strava, and riding. Also I rode my bike, that part is pretty cool. :D

That's not to say that training for a sportive is BS, it's not. Just remember to keep things in perspective and remember what you like about cycling. Just ride and don't think about it too much.
