we have just had the same on off weather near blackburn. Got caught in a blizzard bit and had to stop just couldnt see safely more than 5 feet. Only lasted a few minutes then it was back to sunshine.

Depends when you look out the window. It's more like; blizzard, blazing sun, blizzard, blazing sun, etc. Judging by the fact the trees on the other side of the quays are upright now the wind has died down a bit too.

Yeah, it keeps chopping and changing... The end result of which is likely to be an ice rink.

So when I was in my lowest gear this morning, small front/large rear, it sounded like something was hitting the spokes every so often.

I've just been to have a look at my bike and all looks okay, and the noise wasn't there when I put it in the same gear and span the cranks!

Could it be the wheel is slightly out of true and the cage is touching a few spokes on the way round?

I've indexed the gears just in case and I took a picture to see if the rear hangar is bent or not...

What do you think?

Right, double-checked limit screws as I was a bit unsure - made a slight adjustment. Adjusted the barrel again too consequently.

Hopefully it should be okay now. Will test it on the way home! I may be back even more confused!

Hmm. No snow or ice back home, though Manchester was treacherous. It's cold and a bit blowy though. Think I'll wrap up and go out for an hour once I get the kids to bed...

Gents, just spotted in Halfords earlier the Elite Mag Trainer for £120, but then has a further £25 off in their sale, is this worth it for £95, or should I just save some more money and get a better model?

Also done my first commute on my road bike today, going to be getting more in, so easy wish I had taken it up sooner.

Go for a set of rollers, they look like a lot of fun.

For the guys (or just me & topgun) who did the jodrell bank sportive yesterday, the times and pics are up. I won't be bothering buying any photos though considering that on the whole 50m course the only photographers were in the car park of the place we started from...

There were some places with fields & hills etc all around that would have made some cracking shots but no. Lazy isn't the word...

Here's the only proper shot of me. (oh, and here).

Love this. So many folks. Don't realise how easy it really is to get on a bike and got to work.

Much as it makes me shudder to say it; Norman Tebbit had a point.

Thing is I'll happily ride 50 miles on a weekend or 20 miles in an evening, but just couldn't bring myself to ride in to work, now I have a locker to keep my gear in it is just a case of bring in lunch and some things in a bag and I can get to work in about 10 minutes longer, but get some miles in and save some cash.

My hand was forced due to having no MOT on my car, but I will certainly be doing it more often. Although I did **** up a bit as I got a lift in and forgot my laptop so had to borrow a pool car to go and pick it up....

Well, I made it out in the snow and the cold and half my cycling wardrobe...

And got my first legitimate KOM! It's a sprint, rather than a climb, strictly speaking, and I'm sharing it, but even so!

Damien - I've also beaten you on Market Street Sprint and I'm only 1s off KOM on there, though something tells me you could take it easily if you wanted to and you got a chance with no cars in the way...

Oh yeah, and I keep forgetting to erase the data off my GPS logger between rides, so I've had to delete Saturday's ride from Strava and put up that and tonight's ride as some sort of 3 day composite

Heh, tell me about it. You start hauling ass from the church and then a bus or car turns up in front of you and you have to slow to a crawl... If they'd only go a bit faster you could slipstream then but oooooh nooooo... 19mph all the way.

I currently have a KOM on a new segment I created. My first and last time that will happpen I imagine!

Quick, look before the leaderboard is created :) haha! Clicky

Edit: too late - leaderboard is created and I'm 8th :(

Urgh, looking at some bits of my ride, the GPS is well shonky. I don't know whether it's the logger I'm using. Maybe I'll have to go back to using my phone, particularly for the shorter rides...

I don't suppose a Garmin uses AGPS? But I assume it gets a much better signal than a cheapo logger like the one I'm using? Is it just that much better at picking up a strong signal?

Anyone watching the cycling on sky sports 3? Leg 6 of the Tirreno-Adriatico, with a ridiculous 30% climb, sheer pain, sheer wobbly thighs. Christ on a bike.
