Road Cycling Essentials

That's it then, starting last Tuesday I'm on a new hard(er)core training regime, 2 x 25 mile sprint/hill rides in the week (pushing until I'm ill type ones) and at least 100 miles over the weekend (in one go or at least a 75 miler one day and a 25 the other).

This should give me a pretty balanced cycling fitness and with any luck allow me to beat a particularly annoying mate within a couple of months.

Route signs might still be up, give it a try the day after.

I do it every year and there aren't any route signs you just ride up the same hill from all four sides, it's brutal :) I'll be doing it again this year too but it's a shame it isn't the day afte so it would count towards the challenge.

ok bud , good luck with it, hope they do a good fit for you

ill forget, as im in France on monday to see the TdF ;)
My condolences ;)

My hope is that it'll solve the foot numbness I've been plagued with since I started cycling. I'd really like to be able to go for a ride over a couple of hours long without losing all sensation in my feet. It's a large part of the reason I've yet to do a "proper" century. The Dunwich Dynamo is the following day, so it may turn out to be a massive mistake, but as they say; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Went out for first ride in nearly two weeks. Felt like a complete sloth and only managed 12 ish miles at around 15mph :(

I've entered that Rapha challenge, but I'm not going to stand a chance. 24k feet in 8 days... As if.

not sure how I'll fare tbh.
I'm doing about 500m a day atm, so if I can kick that up a bit and add a bit it should be ok

Urgh, I am properly suffering from fatigue this week. I don't know if it's the weather, a bit of missed sleep, not eating enough or the fact that I've only been using the fixed gear for the last few months on a big gear (or a combination of all that) but I felt like someone had pulled the batteries out of me on the way home tonight. I don't think I'll be lasting much longer tonight - early bed :(

Quick jaunt this evening to wear in some new shorts and pick up some personal bests. It occurs to me that the bypass near us is borderline pointless as I'm sure there's now more traffic lights, roundabouts and pelican crossings than on the road it's bypassing. The surface is also hideous.

Just got a bit of cycling either side of a train journey on Saturday, heading to my parents ahead of Sunday's almost-a-century ride.

Competed in my first ever time trial tonight, got off to a really good start by leaving work late, so by the time I got home (rode bike home) I had about 3 minutes to get some food in me, top up my drink and get going.

Things got even better as I got 2 punctures whilst waiting around, my tyres are really shot to pieces - need some recommendations of what to replace with, any good deals at the moment? Worth going for this deal, although was after 700x25 ideally, but seems a good price.

The route was a local one of 12 miles fairly flat route, was aiming for 20 mph average to beat 36 minutes, had a really good run, although got some cramp in my right calf about half way through, but just pushed on and managed to get round in 34:16, absolutely knackered now though, probably get some nice cramp during the night.

Or if you need tubes as well:

Lovely weather this morning :)

My creaky crank is still doing my head in. It's not the BB or bearings.

I'll re fit the pedals, rebuild the headset and swap over the wheels to see if it's them for any reason. God I hate a noisy bike!!
