nothing better than loading up someone else's route and just following it without having to worry about where you are going or stopping to check a map on your phone.
http://ridewithgps.com is great for drawing your own map to import into a garmin as well
You just need to watch you are clicking - I've stiched myself up with routes I've planned online in the past. I've planned to go down what looks to be a country lane (so has the routing data when following roads) and it turns out to be a farm track or footpath when you get there
