Not liking the prospect of shelling out over £200 for a super beefy chain and padlock, to stop some piece of scum from knicking my bikes. But needs must......

Anyone use the Pragmasis Protector chains? That's what I'm looking at.

Perhaps I'm being ignorant but wouldn't it make more sense just to get an awesome d-lock and some decent security skewers? Or even just two d-locks.

For the calories burned riding over 100 miles a week you're going to need 750+ calories a day extra to cover the exercise, and that would still be leading to weight loss. So you could just eat 2250 calories a day as long as you're keeping up all the cycling.

Or you can do as FrenchTart said and log everything on myfitnesspal, eat 1500 a day and eat back your exercise calories. I like this as it means the more I cycle the more I can eat :) Does mean the amount to eat will vary each day though.

Been on 1600 a day and eating back exercise calories for a few months now, weight it still coming off nicely :) Would have been a lot more difficult without MFP, you never realise how many calories are in some things, or just how much of something you have until you start weight it and counting the calories.

I reserved two Race Packs at my nearest Halfords.:(

Picked up two on Saturday - bargain!!

On a separate note I am quite depressed about my cycling for the first time in ages. It has become all too apparent that riding 40-60 miles once a week is painfully insufficient to maintain a level of fitness through the winter. Up until now i have been satisfied with not parking up for three months and therefore the turbo is gathering dust! However, every weekend by the time I get c40 miles in at a moderate speed my legs are shot. Yesterday brought things even sharper into focus on the ride I was on. I was fine for 1 hour 20 in medium speed group which a mixture of riders in it including some women but as soon as we hit the headwind and I lost the wheel I was jettisoned out of the lead group of 6-7 riders and then pretty much had to battle alone for 35 miles.

Into the wind I just seemed to lack the power required to close a gap and several stronger riders pushed past me. In the end I limped home having got lost twice and covered the 62 miles in just less than 4 hours.

fuelling I think was ok as this didn't feel like a bonk but just a lack of stamina perhaps from going to fast to start with. I think it also highlighted the benefits of clinging onto a group when you are turning into a headwind. A couple of mates managed to stay with a small group and finished with an average speed nearly 2mph ahead of me!

So this week will see me get at least one turbo session in an attempt to arrest the decline that seems to be affecting me. Fitness is bloomin hard earned but so easily surrendered.

How are you even alive? Unless you're like 4 feet tall or something.

edit: I really recommend using something like MyFitnessPal and logging both your food intake and your exercise (though keep in mind MFP's estimates for kcal burned cycling are laughably high). 1500 kcal a day plus enough food to cover the kcal you've burned cycling would still lead to massive weight loss.

Lol. No, 5ft 7 and at present I weigh just under 13 stone, was 14.5 stone New Years day, hence why I decided to do something about it!

Reason I am eating so little (comparatively speaking), is that the wife decided to lose weight as well (New years resolution) and joined Weight Watchers. Now, ill be honest, I am a lazy git when it comes to eating/cooking. If she doesn't do it for me - I just wouldn't eat, so when she joined WW I told her to just do me whatever she has. So, I have been eating the same things she does. I don't think the amount of food I eat has really decreased, but whereas I would have had a (for example) burger and chips, this has now been replaced by (again for example) peppered lean beef with vegetables.

Definately think I need to do something about eating more though, it's just how I do it. Tempted to keep eating the same things she does, as to be honest I quite like the food, but just eat more of it.

I'm looking out the window and watching the trees being bent over due to the winds, guess which direction I'm cycling in......:(

Just gets so depressing after a while.

With the amount of cycling you're doing you really do need to eat more as you'll be burning away a ton of muscle along with your fat loss. Perhaps just get a few staple pre-cycle and/or post-cycle snacks that are high in kcal. Then at least on days when you're cycling your kcal intake vs energy burned won't be at quite such an alarming ratio.

I eat like a horse most of the time anyway, but doing 150-200 miles a week means I'm constantly hungry lol!

Eating well after a ride is key too, to help recovery.....and of course while riding (if it's a long ride).

Yup, same here. I am on a cut at the moment (have gradually moved from 1800 to 1600 but am allowed to eat what I exercise back). I only cycle 70-80 miles per week at the moment but that plus beefcake 3-4 times per week means that unless I order a dominos pizza I pretty much eat tons of food and I'm still under my target kcal intake.

I don't calorie count at all. I pretty much eat what I want, but NOT rubbish. I try to resist things sometimes, but I always say 'meh I'll burn that off on the way home' ;)

I have a curry every Saturday evening, and I dread to think how many calories are in that! But I've normally done at least 3-40 miles that day anyway.

Both me and my wife are out. Bleh.

Edit: can anyone remember whether they took payment when you entered the ballot or do you get charged when you're successful?

I think I got a cancelled, but the link doesn't seem to work on a phone now either.

I thought they only took money if you agreed to donate your entry fee regardless of getting in.
