I'm going to get out tonight for a 20 miler all being well. Can't be out too late as I've got to be up around 5:30 tomorrow to get down to London - JOY.

Done to death no doubt but I need some bib shorts for the better weather. Got Castelli Velocissimo Bib Tights for the now/colder weather and very happy with them.

Any pointers for some bib shorts - most of the bib shorts from Castelli seem over £100 minimum.

dhb Aeron Pro Cycling Bib Short seem to get great reviews at reasonable price (£67)

Thoughts?

I have a pair of the dhbs and liked them at first but they are my worst bib short I own for long term comfort.

Assos S2s from the assos outlet are by far my favourite for £90!

I swear my bike hates me. Since Christmas I've had to replace:

Rear derailleur
Headset
Front chain ring (was quite heavily worn, one day the chain managed to skip off the front ring over a speed bump and jam in the chain ring because at some point the pin that's meant to stop this happening had snapped off)
Front derailleur seems to be screwed - refuses to return to inner chain ring

Then today on my way to work the front shifter manages to get stuck when I try and trim the front derailleur, so I now have the lever stuck at a ~40 degree angle pointing towards the front wheel.

Icing on the cake, on my way home there's a loud bang - my rear tyre had blown out and I discovered the rear wheel has some play allowing a few mm of lateral movement. Lovely 3.5mile walk home in the rain followed.

Last year I barely had to do anything with it, just a new cassette/chain and some fresh tyres.

Bikes require lots of maintenance.
Unless you are proficient with tools and preventative maintenance I would suggest paying to get it serviced.

they seems a good price, are they still that price?

I have dhb bib shorts, I got the "tour" version, seems ok, but I think I could have done better, my Lussos that I bought recently, seem better

oh and I dunno why I want to show this, but I do :p

Looks like a good route. You'll have to take me out that way some time.

Need to get of my ar$e and sort this out at some point .... yea - its a good route. Bit different to the Surrey Hills but the return leg is not as nice. I go mainly to try and break the top 100 on Toys Hill. Ever so slowly getting there

I know - my other bike has never caused even a hint of a problem and I've upgraded pretty much everything on it, including the whole groupset. Just not sure what I could have done to prevent most of the list above.

The only thing that really caught me out was the front chain ring with the chain popping off, I knew it was worn and was planning on replacing but didn't get there quickly enough.

The front derailleur I have no idea what happened with as I'd been using it regularly, had to switch to using the inner chain ring 100% of the time for a couple of days before I could get a new outer chain ring, now it won't return to the inner chain ring when downshifting, even after a good greasing.

Headset I'm not sure I could have done anything about, the original one must have been 3-4 years old.

Not sure what I could have done re: the shifter, the cables were < 6 months old and there was no other damage beforehand.

Rear wheel is only a cheap one and about a 2 years old - didn't display any signs of anything being wrong before today.

Just sucks that it's all come at once, especially when this bike is being replaced in <2 months :-/

Sod's law - I had the spring in the XT rear mech on one of my MTBs snap in the garage. Would have expected it when it was being thrashed (and crashed) through a rock garden, not when locked up and going nowhere.

Wheeee, 21 miles this evening. Horrible wind blowing from the South so the first half was like going through treacle. Coming back was a lot better! I was going pretty well for a few miles, though I'm so far off my segment times from last year it's untrue. Roll on summer when it's less windy and my legs are back on form.

Heh, Kristian House has got times on some of the segments I did this evening. He's got a 21.6mph average on one against my 19.6mph. That might just be do-able...

Careful what you spend.

It will be hard to recoup the cost of new parts on a second hand bike.
Would it make more sense to break it, clean the good parts - frame fork etc and sell it like that?

Parts can fetch more than full bikes.
