These saddle bags in Aldi just now are good. As others have said, leave the repair patches at home and take some spare tubes with you.
All you'll need then is a pump to go with it.

got one last week! the small one is alright, fits my spare tube, pump, levers, mini tool, 2 spare rear lights(my luck) and I've still got some space left.

Personally I repair my tubes at the side but I realise I'm in the minority with that. There are definitely advantages to taking spare tubes with you but I'd take the repair kit too - just in case :)

I'm all for repairing tubes, but I just don't see how you can get an effective/reliable repair roadside. I clean the tube (well, the area around the puncture), prepare it and cement it properly.

+1

Repairing a pile of inners is a job for a sunny afternoon in the garden with a deckchair and a few beers.

I think i've finally decided on which bike i'm going to go for - The Mekk Poggio 1.5 in either black/white/red or black/grey. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/mekk-2g-poggio-p15-sora/

Though the group set is only Sora, the frame itself seems to get good reviews, and it's quite nice to look at! Before jumping headfirst into it I'm going to go and try one for size, I do have a few back ups in case it doesn't turn out as I hope in the flesh!

Yeah. It makes sense. I just don't have space for a spare inner in my saddle bag so I repair personally. For rides where I have larger bags I'll take tubes with me..sometimes.

New Sora is pretty much old tiagra, which is pretty much older 105 and so on... At this level it's fine. That being said, £720 seems high when Planet X or ribble will do tiagra for that much and less, so the frame would have to be that much better.

Edit: I take it back, the frame is carbon, you're not going to beat that.

Yes I had originally wanted a Ribble, but in my calculations (and justifications to the mrs!) I opted for a C2W voucher for £750 in the end. At least I can go and ride the Mekk before i buy it.

My understanding of why they have been so heavily discounted is that the new Mekk range which are being announced imminently will have full groups (i assume, from my limited knowledge, that this is good!).

I've had quite a few roadside puncture repairs fail on me so I carry tubes now. Single tube in my bag for commuting, but for longer rides either two tubes and/or a wad of self-adhesive repair patches.

^ Spot who's had a long ride plagued by multiple punctures and doesn't want it to happen again :p

I carry the same. My saddle bag has two tubes and some self-adhesive patches, along with my multi-tool. God help me if it ever comes to needing to fix that many punctures in one go, but better safe than sorry, I guess.

Multiple punctures between the three of us in the first few miles of the KK year before last, one of which tore out a sidewall. I think it was 12pm and we hadn't even reached the 4th mile (of 70), so we just stuck the disabled bike in the support car and rode ours back. And then I got another puncture on the way back.

Never. Again. :(

When that happens you just inform the team car via race radio and they come and collect you. With a beaming happy face.

Part of this may be untrue.

The only time I've ever had to call for a rescue was when my rear derailleur shifted into the spokes of my back wheel and tried to wrap itself round the seatstay. That was fun. I called the mrs to ask for my neighbour - who has a big car and much more sympathy for a stranded cyclist! - to come and rescue me.

Thinking about it, if that happened to me these days I'd dig out my multitool and do some ghetto roadside single speed conversion...

Does anyone have any suggestions for routes from London to Dover that minimise climbing and don't go on the A2. We don't mind cycling up to about 100 miles but we'll be starting quite late in the day (as we have to get the train from Manchester) so it's going to be a bit tough to get it all done.

Looks decent but there will always be a bit of climbing necessary to avoid the A2.

lol mine is pathetic since I stick to the same route pretty much every time.
