Fan's helmet cam gets knocked out of his hands by a rider in the peloton on Le Tour - Europcar rider Kevin Reza picks it up and records some footage in the bunch.

Saw that on facebook earlier. Watched it about 10 times now and I still cant work out how he managed to pick it up off the ground whilst riding along at ~30mph

Great story though. The guy asked Kevin on twitter if he still had the camera, Europcar got his details and posted it back to him. :)

Yeah, it must be on a stick or something. It's all the way down by his feet at about a minute in.

Not getting much riding done at the moment. Even got a shiny Garmin Edge 500 for my birthday last month but hardly clocked any miles.

I did manage to get out for a 20 miler to visit my grandparents grave though. Anyone else do similar rides as opposed to the usual commute or scenic route?

My rebuild is riding nicely, though I had shredded my rear tyre on local roads that have been "dressed" with sharp nasty stones.

Anyone got any hints on adjusting front derailleurs?

I'm doing my nut in trying to get it right. Large chain ring is fine, but changing down to the small chainring is causing problems. Usually it doesn't change down at all, but if it does move down it moves down too far and throws it off the inside . I think the lower limit screw is set correctly as when I'm in the smallest gear it's JUST brushing the guard.

I've been following this guide but I'm still stumped. I'm tempted to take it to my LBS but I've just replaced the entire drive train and I feel like I'd be failing at the final hurdle!

Are you sure the derailleur is actually at the lower limit when you're setting it? Because where the derailleur sits while in gear can be different to the furthest it can travel until it hits the limit screws. Pretty much the entire purpose of the limit screws is to stop the chain from coming off. It's important to adjust cable tension by hand when testing it rather than using the gear levers, and once you're sure the screws are set correctly you'll probably have to adjust the cable tension so it sits in the right place for each gear.

There's probably an easier way, but what i did was saw a little wedge out of a block of wood to keep the derailleur at the outer limit, make sure the gear lever was in the highest gear and pull the cable as hard as possible using pliers while tightening the bolt. Then repeat when it's not tight enough, and then again when the cable stretches :p

On mine I set the limit screw by eye on the lowest gear, I then attached the cable pulling it tight by hand, then shifted into the top ring and adjusted that limit screw accordingly.

Was the simplest one! Start with setting it up on the bottom ring first and it should be easy.

Hmm I can't really offer any useful advice for the front derailleur, it's always seemed like a black art to me until one day I got the knack, couldn't begin to explain how I get it adjusted now but I manage to get it to work.

I know this is going to sound a little strange, but does anyone else struggle with eating and sleeping after a big ride?
Every time I go for a big ride, 40+ miles. I really struggle to eat that same day, literally have to force food down at dinner time, after riding in the morning! I always have a **** night's sleep as well.
However, the next day I'll eat like mad and sleep all day if I gave myself chance.

I'm guessing it's something to do with the adrenaline. Does anyone else have a similar issue?

I feel a bit sick after very high-intensity rides and wont be hungry for 20-30 mins after I stop. I can eat huge amounts of food as soon as the sick feeling goes away though.

Yeh, similar I suppose. I felt quite nauseous after my last ride, which went away quite quickly, but I tried to eat dinner and it came back.
The next day I demolished everything in sight.

I don't seem to suffer with any sort of lack of appetite, once I've had a good drink, i move straight on to the "demolishing everything in sight" phase. This could potentially be why my weight doesn't seem to have done anything in recent months!

I don't seem to feel it after big or intense rides. I recover silly fast it seems. I don't have an overly big appetite either way too. Strange. When I did my 100 miler the first time, 8 hours on the bike... I cycled the 5 miles home without much of a break then just went out for a meal like nothing happened. After an hour no matter what I just feel normal.

going to adjust my saddle so it's pointing forward slightly at the front since the bit where my bones go is ankled slightly back with the seat flat..

once I figure out how lol...

the only way to tighten the front bit with an allen key is from the top below the seat so would mean removing the seat  and I'm not expect the front bolt to be so loose that I can turn the cog by hand.

what's with the guide line markings on the front of the seat post? the metal bits they point to are completely rounded off so don't adjust anyway which seems really strange?

especially since you can just turn the seat post if the seat wasn't straight anyway
