Thanks guys.

I've ordered a kit with valve & two canisters, as well as a track pump for home.

I will pick up a small hand pump eventually. Belt and braces etc...

Here's another option for you:

Still Sora, but the frame is very similar to the CAAD10 which is widely regarded as one of the best alu frames around, if not full stop. Worth considering. That said, if £600 is your max budget make sure you leave room for everything else. Helmet, lights, clothing, puncture repair and maintenance stuff etc. Also pedals.

Regarding asthma, i suffer from it too but with a salbutamol/salmeratol (Seretide 125) preventer and a quick blast of salbutamol (Ventolin) prior to exercise it very rarely bothers me. If you're having any symptoms you should really go and have a checkup at your GP, they generally aim for you to not have to use your Ventolin any more than once a week. And you know, it's free.

Thanks for the suggestion. I even went to a lbs and sat on one but found the synapse much more comfortable and nearly bought a 2013 105 model but it wasnt quite cheap enough. I definately found the 105 to be smoother than tiagra (didnt try sora)

I plugged a few of these into the bay just to see whats about and there is a hardly used z85 105 very near me which I am looking at tonight then if I buy it and use it regularly for a year Ill but a nice bike then.

cheers for help

I carry 2 tubes, a pump and 2 C02 cartridges.

I find it best to inflate the tube a little bit before using the C02.

It's possible to do the initial small tube inflation with your mouth.
With CO2 cartridges try and get one with a flow control tigger.

Thanks, somewhere down the line I will invest in a good one.

For future reference I believe this place is the cheapest for cartridges. http://www.co2cartridges.co.uk/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=280

Thanks!

Are the cartridges 'part-usable' at all? As in would you get more than one inflation per cartridge? and if so do they need to remain in the valve adapter once used (if not emptied completely) - Sorry got no idea how these work.

Hi all, bit of a noob when it comes to road bikes, picked up my first one before Christmas, a PX Pro Carbon, I basically had a nightmare fitting a trainer tyre on the rear the other week and it got me thinking about if I puncture at the side of the road!! I'm after your advice on some new wheels, ideally up to about £250, your help appreciated.

What wheels has it currently got on it? What tyres? What levers are you using? Most road tyres are at least a bit tricky to get off, and I'm not sure £250 of wheels is a good solution to that problem.

Unless you mean if you puncture that trainer tyre on the road, in which case I must tell you not to use a trainer tyre on the road! If that is the case, then yeah, buy a cheap spare read wheel for like £30 on eBay and put the trainer tyre on it and keep your road tyre on your proper wheel.

It's got FSA Team 30 Wheelset with Conti Gatorskins, I realise they can be a bit tricky but ended up taking the wheel and trainer tyre to my LBS to fit and even they said it was extremely difficult to get on and the Vision wheelset I have are known for this. I understand I can't use the trainer tyre on the road, so that's why I'm wanting a new set and just keep the Trainer tyre on the wheel it's on now.

Gatorskins. My sympathies.

You don't really need to upgrade your wheelset to make your tyre fitting life easier. Just use reasonable levers and folding tyres that aren't ridiculously heavy/hard. Tyres also loosen up a bit after multiple punctures (speaking from experience of..sadly..multiple punctures).

Gotcha, I just wasn't clear on what you were after. I'm sure someone can suggest some decent wheels for £250 with rims that aren't too problematic.

Tidied up my garage now I've got some hooks on the wall, just need a few more bikes to fill the holes now.

Also completely cleaning the bike for Friday, it was absolutely disgusting, ripped pretty much everything off it, cleaned it up, greased and oiled all relevant bits, put on new Bottom Bracket, Brake Blocks. Chain and Cassette tomorrow and getting it all boxed up after a quick test ride.

Yes a cartridge is part usable, a 16oz cartridge is rated to inflate a 700c tyre to 130psi which it quite a bit higher then people inflate their tyres too. Yes they have to remain in the Inflator unless fully dis-charged as it would be dangerous to try and remove it. The cartridges and inflator work like a aerosol can, the inflator is basically a spring loaded valve when the end is depressed it lets the high pressure Co2 out of the cartridge.

I thought these got decent reviews or are they naff?

They're great unless you live in a country where it has rains more than (n)once a year :p

I used them for quite a while and they're awful. In the dry they're okayish but as soon as it is remotely damp it's like you've covered your wheels in vaseline... Which might be fun if you're that way inclined but I imagine most of us aren't.

Off the peg wheels you can't go far wrong with wheels made by Campagnolo/Fulcrum.

Thanks, as I thought then :)

This arrived today (not terribly exciting):

1l and expands to 1.2l. Enough room to fit two tubes, levers, multi-tool, inhaler, keys, wallet essentials and with some room left for some CO2 & valve. (unexpanded)

A quick test on the turbo found it obstructing my hamstrings a little so shifted it further back on the saddle as pictured. Should do for now. Means I can stop riding with a camelback full of stuff and use the pockets on my jersey (when it arrives) for whatever's left.
