Yeah I paid for a bike fit!

Good for you; money well spent. Which TT bike did you get?

Said it before and I'll say it again. Bike fit is the best money I've ever spent. I got a Dolan that's a few years old second hand but will be upgrading St the end of the year. Pictures are in the gallery thread.

Yep, spent enough money with wiggle not to feel guilty! :-P altho gonna pick them up on the bike tomorrow and a bit unsure how big the parcel is gonna be. Think I got 7 different ones with packaging could be chunky!

What kinda fit should I be looking for as a starting point? RETUL? I had a basic fit before my new bike was made (December). My miles have tripled, I've lost 5kg and tweaked so many little amounts on it since and feel I'm around 90% happy with it. I'm not looking to buy a new bike, possibly a new stem/saddle/shoes/cleats etc if required. Also not wanting to spend hundreds on it as I feel I currently don't need to! I'd like to lose another 5kg and be looking at new bikes before spending more.

Re: base layers, my Sportful's came in boxes, I imagine most of the mesh ones will to protect them so don't be surprised if you have a big box from wiggle! ;)

Also: My Sportfuls:

I've considered not even wearing mine when commuting as I cooked yesterday (34 degrees).

Yesterday, 33 degrees and no base layer. No difference, may have sweated more (due to higher humidity) as my jersey was soaked! If anything wearing a base makes taking a wet jersey off easier! ;)

Loads cooler this morning (15/16 degrees) and it look like it's going to stay overcast. We're due some rain this afternoon, I hope it amounts to nothing and clears as I want to go out riding later! Forecast is 22 degrees - much more my kinda temps! ;)

Pushed hard on my commute this morning to chase a couple of guys down (only caught and passed 1, didn't get close enough to pass the other). Heart pounding when I reached work, so hard I now have the Terminator theme stuck in my head... :D

I would look for local recommendations of the best bike fitter from your local clubs! I wouldn't go for a specific type, but focus on finding a good fitter that will spend time looking at and assessing you as a person, rather than just setting you up to some formula!

Made some guy fall off his bike this morning! Was right up my chuff along a bike path, didn't announce himself there at any point. Saw a dog walker up ahead, so stopped pedalling, but then path narrowed and guy was oblivious to us coming up, so put the brakes on, heard some almighty crash bang and the guys gone straight into the bush to the side of the path.

Just stopped, he put a thumbs up, was going to go back to have a go, but thought better of it. Was talking to some guy who said he had been jumping lights earlier on. Wonder if that will knock some sense into him.

Base layers all turned up, but not had a chance to try them out!

Also this happened last night. Had a quick blast, going to try to give them a little run tonight, but they run straight and sound awesome :D

Sounds like a bit of a gimp SoliD  I'd probably have shouted a few things at him :p

Continuing with my rest and also needing to carry stuff home after work I walked in today. Nice weather for it but dear god walking is slow. It took about 50 minutes to complete a journey that is normally 15 :/

Nice wheels SoliD, I see the tubes fitted? Glad they found a home :) :)

Roady, as SoliD suggested, go for someone that has good local feedback. I wasted £150 on my first fitting, that was using Retul, but the guy was useless. My second fitting a year later was £200, using the Precision Bike fitting at a LBS that had good feedback from lots of fellow riders. Night and day between the two fits, and I found a lot more out in the 2nd fitting than I did with the Retul. All down to the fitter, rather than the system used.

I was the bigger man for once! :D Just thought falling off was enough punishment.

Yes perfect thank you jan! I can't wait to ride them later, although it's raining at the moment, and don't want to get them dirty :D

Thought I had buggered up, as didn't have any rim tape for them! But they had a little ribbon in the box that fitted round the rim, never seen one of them before! The tyres are very tight on the rims though! Little worried if I get a puncture out in the wild!

I'm digging my new wheels too! way better power transfer, I could feel the rear flex before when getting off the lights at good pace and this seems to just send the power straight to the road! they're stiffer/bumpier that the old set but I can't complain. We'll see how 16 spokes up front last.

Wheels looks superb, still jealous of how good your Ridley looks with the orange, although in that light your seatpost looks more bronze!

Thanks for the advice guys, in truth I think all I need is an experienced fitter regardless of the system used. I'm not even convinced I need a 'system', even an old school fitter who does it by eye will probably be accurate enough for me!

I think that's the thing, there's lots of clubs and very good riders around here, tons of private coaches too so the high end is very well catered for (and I'm assuming the same is true of the fitters). I know at least 2 LBS who have RETUL systems and to be fair of my favourite LBS (Climb On) the basic fit was performed by Andy in 15 mins while I was wearing jeans. He still did a sterling job on the new bike setup, I've only really adjusted the seat a few mm! I'd rather spend my money with them than anywhere else, just the hardest thing is finding some impartial advice from anyone as all riders/clubs seem to have affiliations/favourites! :D

I'm going to message a couple of guys, one rides for NFTO (CAT1/2) and will probably recommend The Shed (RETUL - NFTO club owner runs it). The second is a guy who started private coaching ('Jonty' Spot On), although I've not met him he comes well recommended by all the riders I've spoken to. Plus point - he randomly followed me in Strava a few weeks back, lives out of town and doesn't seem to have any shop/club affiliations.

we have a new winner for the "spec me a C2W bike" threads:

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/alur-700-road-bike-id_8290145.html

The B'Twin Alur 700 is now reduced to £500.

Five Hundred for 105 on a 9kg bike. I'm tempted to pick one up myself tbh :p

That is a damn good buy!

Although it has that tricky rear brake (behind crank where it'll collect all the mud!), with direct mount 105 calipers. It uses a BB86 (better than the BB90 on most?). Reading the spec's its using 2014 105 (10-speed) and not 11 speed (current) with a Tiagra cassette, not a 105. Also looks to be using Btwin cranks and not FSA/Shimano. With the Btwin wheels too, it gives you plenty to upgrade in future.

Sounds like a bit of a gimp SoliD  I'd probably have shouted a few things at him :p

Just do the same tomorrow? Keep throwing him in the bushes until he learns! ;)

Was that Khamsim's upgraded to Scirocco's? Still loving my Khamsim G3's although getting a ton of road noise now from my Mitch Pro4E 25mms.

I was thinking about doing the track induction at Herne Hill to see if I like it but not sure yet. It introduces you to the basics of track riding and must be done before you can do any other sessions.

It costs £10 and lasts an hour starting at 13:00 but you have to be there by 12:30 to register. You use one of their bikes fitted with toe clips so unless you bring your own pedals have to ride in trainers.

^ It's a bargain and it's quite a lot of fun. Just do it.

A smaller shoe like Converse fit better in toeclips. Running trainers are a bit to too wide really.

Good shout on the Converse, I was thinking my running trainers would be waaay to wide.

I imagine it isn't too intense? I have the Richmond Park TT on Sunday and want to do something for active recovery without destroying the legs.

I figure it's only for the induction so I can probably survive. They'll be better than running trainers.

Of course, if I like it enough, it'll be an excuse for n+1 :D
