Plain old r540s are less than half the price, so it depends how much you think you'll benefit from omgcarbon and a bit of weight saving.

Had to abandon the sportive tomorrow so took a spin along some of their route today.

I felt like I was really struggling in the first 15 miles then just got some energy back especially towards the end. Only stopped as needed to get home to help feed the kids. Should have set out earlier I thinks

Popped to Evans with a few friends as they were looking for a bike for her. I picked up a new cassette for almost £40 'just in case' that was the issue with my bike (even though I kind of knew that it wasn't). I really should've checked my bike over properly beforehand as it's quite obvious that the issue is that the rear gear cable is frayed  At least I've got a spare cassette for when I need it in another ~5k miles.

The fun never ends... Took out my brakes pads to fit new ones and my rear callipers are completely knackered. 2.5k miles and they're utterly seized :/ I'll try my luck with an RMA but I'm not expecting much and in the meantime I need to go and buy a replacement calliper anyhow. Sigh.

It is possible that I forgot the sun cream before that ride...if that is true then it is also probably I am sporting the mother of all tan lines on my arms right now. New I should have got myself a sleeveless jersey.

Popped onto the turbo tonight for the first time in 6 weeks so it was like starting again from scratch :( Got to make a better effort on getting out while i can or at least jump on the bike inside for 45 mins +. Got an odd knocking type sound when i push things from the crankshaft which I'll need to look into :(

Seems like both my legs and various bits of my bike are absolutely broken. Really suffered again on a fairly sedate 50 miler after work. I'm going to take this weekend as a proper two days of rest (no walking for 10 miles carrying heavy stuff just because I'm not on the bike).

Rest is the answer.

I feel your pain. Did a 30 miler with some hill efforts tonight and my legs felt totally cooked about a minute after i went out the door. Having had a crap first 5 months of the year i've really upped the effort the last 5 weeks and seen good improvement. But i think i need to ease off a couple of days.

I felt I had to defend him as some of it stank of bitterness. One of the guys has a son that races and does quite well so obviously for some unknown to take KOMs he isn't amused. I believe he took a KOM off an ex TDF rider whilst in France but nobody questioned that.

:) Good on you. Maybe even get him along to some TTs as a starter. Nice way to ease into riding a bit more competitively.

btw, I'm thinking of developing a new app called 'Strava (No Ross Meffen Version)'. That way everyone else can go back to having some kind of interest in segments again. :D

My 105 5700 pedals look ****ed so would have been as well getting R540s.

They do have a wider platform to them though compared to R540

What's happened to break them? I always figured pedals would last for years and it's the cleats that you keep having to replace.

The underside of my left R540 pedal is scuffed to buggery after only about 4 months use from endlessly trying to clip into the wrong side...

Strava isn't worth getting in a tizz over, either way. It's not racing, sure, but it is something. You just have to take it for what it is, which is asynchronous racing in wildly varying weather, conditions, situations. It's not like this guy is one of the idiots warming up on rollers at the bottom of a hill as had been seen on occasion, so if he's just doing his thing and riding fast it's a bit pathetic to whinge about it.
Amen! Well put :D

I also weighed myself properly this morning and I am 5kg heavier than I was in January. ***** :/ As some of it is down to weight training it is not quite as bad as it sounds but still...not ideal. Taking it easy for two days and then geting serious again from Monday sounds like a plan.

Not to give you a wimminz excuse but some of it could be water retention if you've overstretched yourself, happens to me after long tiring rides. I was 2kg heavier the day after the Fred Whitton this year. Goes away after a few days.

Great ride yesterday. Lovely weather eventually after it warmed up. The roads were absolutely filthy after the thunderstorms we had had the previous night.

Poor bike. It was a mess!

Headed out towards Matlock before diverting to Bakewell for a cafe stop. Then began the climb out of Bakewell through some lovely Peak District lanes up to the top of the Cat and Fiddle. Down to Macc and back along the main road to Leek. :)

But the bullet and ordered the Assos Lobsters to go over my liners & 851 early winters. Good for -6c according to the website.

Reduced to a good price on the Assos factory outlet site, 10% off with code EDU10

So... After the awesomeness of my rear hydraulic caliper dying I picked up a new one this morning. Fitted it and attempt to bleed. For some reason it's refusing to get pressure in the hose. I've tried all sorts of faffing around, checked for leaks, etc...and it's still just refusing to work at all. Any ideas?

First ride outside since the beginning of June , plenty of Turbo time though :p

Bit miffed, my Garmin battery died about 25mins/9miles and 2 climbs from the end! My own oversight for not checking...

Absolutely horrendous quad DOMS from Hack Squats & Leg extentions on Friday, and then some weighted drags yesterday too. So was just aiming to get round with some moderate pace. Last time I did this ride it was around 2hrs 19m and despite my DOMS managed sub 2hr10m-ish.

PB'd loads of segments too :D including all my climbs, Brill Hill by around 40seconds too :) Was also riding fasted (give or take a banana) which I haven't done in a while so can't complain.
